Observation from a wedding

Jaimie, on June 17, 2013 at 9:25 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 14

FH and I attended our friends wedding Saturday. Just posting what I noticed.

- Not a lot of flowers, and the only person who prob noticed was me since I'm meeting with florist this week.

- the couple had a signtiture drink as we walked in that was a big hit.

- people didn't seem to really notice the guest book. I was considering nixing it, but FH wants one.

- Everyone loved that there was a lot of food at the cocktail hour

- the couple choose to donate to a charity close to their heart instead of do favors. I thought that was a really nice touch.

- something I noticed personally is that I really better get comfortable shoes because my feet were in so much pain.

I love the sig drink idea; it needs to be something that doesn't need to be made to order, because that is a huge traffic issue.

One of my recent couples did Bellinis; the peach nectar and fruit garnish was in all the glasses before hand and the bartenders just had to pour champagne when they were ready to rock.

I'm glad you had a nice experience!

I think it's nice when couples choose to donate to a charity, but I dislike it when they mention that it's instead of my favor. I wish they'd just skip that part.

There was actually a table when we walked in with the drinks there for us to grab. It was really great to be able to walk in with it, no need to go to the bar.

We're doing the signature drink as well; we thought it would be a fun addition to wine and beer (we're simple people!) We aren't doing a lot of flowers either, so reading this makes me very happy!

I was just at a wedding this weekend so I'll add a few of my own observations:

-Escort cards were in no kind of order so it took forever to find ours and made a big backup at the door

-Table numbers were on bottles which was cute, but they easily got moved/turned so our table was hard to find

-DJ was horrible, he mumbled the whole night (made me decide to invest in a great DJ)

-There was way too much "dead time" between wedding party entrance and dinner (about 45 mins)

Wow ladies thanks for the updates. Now this makes me consider not doing a guest book either. We initially thought about having a wedding well wishes tree or have a jar where people can write advice and their names for bride and groom. Now considering nixing it.....we'll see.

I hate that dead time; seat everyone, get the bridal party in and start with dinner.

I like the wishing wall/tree too.

Now that you mentioned escort cards. They opted for a sign instead. I would prob prefer cards just because I think that they are cute, but the sign option did make things easier to find our place.

That's why I appreciate more unique guest books. We did a photo book guest book that we forgot to put out, but likely wouldn't have been used much. But our "main" guest book was ornaments placed in the centerpieces at each table. We included little signs asking guests to please sign the ornaments and/or leave us a little note on them. We put them up on our Christmas tree the day after our wedding.

I missed the guest book at the wedding I went to two weeks ago. I was at the ceremony...but there were two sides to enter and I entered on the opposite and they didn't move it to the reception/cocktail 2 hrs. I plan to put mine (which is actually a thumb print tree) at the entrance of the reception so everyone has to go by it to get it.

Love the signature drinks, especially since they were out so you could grab one. Great idea.

I saw the guestbook at the wedding I went to recently, but many others did not. It was very poorly placed. You would have had to know that you need to go a certain way and go through where the cocktail hour would be to see it. If you came from a different entrance or walked right to the ceremony, it was missed.

The wedding last weekend I attended had escort wands that MoG made. They were really bulky to hold during the cocktail hour. The guestbook I saw when first walking in to the cocktail hour because it was after the wands, but they left it out there during the entire reception and maybe should have brought it in.

I wish I had a wedding to go to sometime before ours! I haven’t been to one in years, and when I went to it, I had no interest in paying attention to details. I just want to go to one, a random couple; crash a wedding and just make sure I know what I am doing day of! They should have small mock weddings at these bridal fairs!
