Ocean dress?

Melanie, on December 8, 2019 at 2:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
Those of you that did beach weddings... did y’all jump into the ocean or pool afterwards? My fiancé really wants to but I don’t want to ruin my dress?! Should I have a “jump in the water” dress on standby for the end of the night? Or just change into my swimsuit at that point?

Personally, I find this really wasteful, but if you don't care about keeping, selling, or donating your dress to be worn again, go for it. However, realize that many wedding gowns when saturated with water are going to be extremely heavy and cumbersome, so unless you're really careful this could be very dangerous.

If you think you'll want to jump into the pool or ocean at some point, I'd definitely plan to wear something besides your actual wedding gown.

I would not want to do that either hahaha. I would strongly suggest having a different dress and you know what right now on David's Bridal check the sales but I've seen some simple wedding dresses go for under $200. Also my best friend when she got married because she didn't plan on keeping the wedding dress as she was having the wedding because it was what her husband wanted she went to Goodwill and found a wedding dress for $80. Something that I saw at a resort that I was looking into having an elopement was the guy was in the pool and the bride only had her feet in the pool but wasn't fully in. If you plan on preserving the dress then I wouldn't do it. I don't think it's a bad idea to have even just a simple white Beach dress that you can change into before jumping in.

People have drowned by running into water in their wedding dress. The dress quickly gets very heavy when wet, and can drag you under. I would 100% not do this.

From the "will it ruin my dress" perspective, I'd suggest getting a second inexpensive lightweight wedding dress if you really feel the need to go in water with it on. Lulu's has some dresses under $100 that I think would fit the bill nicely.

From a safety perspective, I would not at all recommend jumping into a pool or off a dock or boat or swimming out into deep water, especially if you've been drinking the night away. I was a lifeguard all through my teenage and college years, and swimming in clothes is very difficult, even for competent swimmers. Add in a wedding dress (lots of heavy fabric), alcohol, the fact that you'll already be fatigued from dancing and partying, and ocean waves and you have a recipe for a disastrous end to your wedding evening. Wading into a lake for some cute photos the next day is one thing, but if you really feel the need to go for a swim at the end of your wedding night, I'd go with wearing a swimsuit and at least eliminating one of the risk factors for drowning.

Just keep in mind that if you do it, be extremely careful. Wedding dresses can be heavy to begin with, but get EXTREMELY heavy when wet. A sad number of brides (aka more than 0) have drowned because of getting j. Water with their dress on.

I wasn't thinking about running in the water, but I did see someone else on this forum post photos of her wet wedding dress. They did look nice, but I can totally see myself complaining about the sand all over the tulle Smiley atonished

Hah well with a beach wedding I’m already taking that risk of getting sand all up in the tulle.
