October 2 2020 Covid19 concerns

Shaylyn, on March 23, 2020 at 1:25 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
I’m booked for 10/2/20 and am so worried about our wedding not being able to take place due to the COVID19 pandemic. Our venue sent out an email saying we can postpone to any available date before April 2021 (move our wedding from the fall to the winter which I do NOT want to do given it’s an outdoor venue) or we can postpone to after April 2021 but we have to have it on a week day (Monday-Thursday). They said they have to keep Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays open for the peak season in 2021 for new couples, which I think is awful customer service. My wedding is just as important as anyone else’s! Our contract doesn’t say anything about what happens in the event the venue cancels the wedding, only that we lose our deposit and any money we’ve paid if we cancel. Any advice? PS- getting married in Philly

My wedding is the weekend after yours. Personally, I would hold off on changing the date until the middle of the summer. There's a lot that can happen in the next 7 months.

Hi Shaylyn! It sounds like most October brides are holding on to their original plans right now! You've got a lot of time to monitor your local situation and adjust if need be.

No matter when your wedding date - it's totally fair to feel nervous! And you're not alone in those feelings. Smiley heart You can connect with other October couples about their Covid19 concerns in this discussion:

Do you think i should be concerned about my wedding in October?

I think its naive to assume anything at this point. I understand we must keep hope, but we must also be realistic and prepare for the worst case scenario (postponement.) I am right here with you, except I am having to sort this out sooner.

Our wedding is planned for June 13, 2020 and while that seems far enough out to not have to postpone - with all the uncertainty and information rapidly changing on a daily basis, I can't help but be overwhelmed with stress and anxiety. I've already had to cancel by bridal shower and am sure my bach is out of the question at this point too.

Here in CA, we have a "Shelter in Place" ordinance in effect through April 19th with the possibility of that extending to May if our situation here does not improve. Our venue has had to cancel and postpone weddings that were planned through April. My heart ACHES for those couples.

We are hoping late April will offer more clarity for the future of 2020, however, what everyone needs to understand (myself included) is that even if things "calm down" soon, it doesn't mean people will be out of danger while in close proximity to one another. We never expected to have to make such a heartbreaking decision, however, it is not nearly as heartbreaking as the idea of putting our loved ones at risk.

take some time to decide what is best for you, but understand that there are many other couples debating the same and dates will become less and less available.

That was so well put Natalie! I hope you and your fiancé are able to move forward with your wedding as planned but I think you share my anxiety that it’s so unclear what’s going to unfold in the next several months. They could come up with a cure, infections could drop and social distancing might be able to relax, but then there could be a spike and we could have to resume social distancing, so many possible outcomes and so much uncertainty. I’m just wondering if our venue will have to refund us if state restrictions aren’t permitting weddings to take place.

I’m feeling nervous, getting married on October 3rd. However I’m reading that the government is preparing for a second wave of the virus in the winter. I’m hopeful it may go away long enough for the warm months.
