I am looking into possible honeymoon locations in Michigan for October of next year and hoping for some suggestions and good areas. We'd like to be near lighthouses, beaches and that type of thing... good scenery and atmosphere as well. Also hoping for some signs of life but not the middle of the city. Hoping to keep the budget in the mid-range (around $800 for the entire thing) and it'd be a total of five days (probably 2 on road and 3 actually there). We are about an hour south of Chicago (in NW Indiana) if that's helpful at all. If there are particular places you really like (specific hotels, B&B's etc) please also put that as well, along with city/ place. Thanks!

I want to say when we went in July and stayed in one of the hotels, our room was $180-200/night. We stayed 3 nights. If you can I would also try to get an overnight stay at one of the hotels on Mackinac (Mission Point Hotel is my favorite, but most people will say the Grand hotel)...spending a day there is totally worth it, but I'm not sure what the tourism is like in mid October.

In Traverse City I recommend the Great Wolf Lodge if you don't mind children because there is a water park there, The Cherry Tree Inn, or Mitchell Creek Inn. In Charlevoix I recommend the Weathervane Inn and Suites . And in Petoskey I recommend the Perry Hotel or the Odawa Casino Resort, Now for a billion links......https://www.greatwolf.com/traverse-city

Niiiiccceeeee! That does sound awesome. Originally, we were thinking of going to Cape Cod but after considering all the tourists and how expensive everything was probably going to be, we reconsidered and thought MI might be better.

Here's some adorable B&B in Frankfort (same area) with excellent Trip Advisor reviews:

Oh and speaking of Petoskey, it's near Harbor Springs and Charlevoix that's been mentioned. They have a "dark park" and you will never see so many stars. If you can get there during an aurora, holy romantic. FH and I have been trying to go for years.

Both of those B&B's look super cute. I've emailed for information. It looks like they are both literally within walking distance of the lighthouse. That would be soo amazing! Gahh it looks so gorgeous with the sunset. Looks like they are both almost B&B's as well, so that'd be cool. Is Frankfort big enough that there are things to do in that area? (Yes, I'm a complete N00b so don't judge!)

Its less than an hour from Traverse City, 45 minutes from Sleeping Bear Dunes and Empire. You'll easily be able to find lots of things to do within an hour of there.

    Always check LonelyPlanet.com when travelling:

    http://www.lonelyplanet.com/usa/great-lakes/michigan

From there you'll be able to find things close to that area and helps you get a better idea of where you would want to stay

Oh my god so I just remembered how much FH loves space and the stars. If we could do that, it would make his day, I'm sure. OK looking up lodging for that area. Is petoskey and frankfort close by? Ha, that'd be too convenient.. I'm sure Smiley smile

Lol....nonononono! Lonely Planet is a travel website...it gives you a more personal idea and suggestions of things in the area. But trust me, your FH wont have any problems seeing the stars up there...

God there are some really really gorgeous places that I've been given pointers to. I love it all. I'm going to talk with FH and ask what he'd like to do on our honeymoon. We are only going to be actually honeymooning for 3 days so it's not like we need a ton of stuff, but things like whether he'd like to go wine tasting or would rather gaze at stars or whatever is going to make all the difference. But just having this list and being able to research from here, is extremely helpful. Thanks to all of you and esp. Maltese for all your research that you did for me. I realllyyy appreciate it! I'll let you know what we end up going with.

edit odd on: SarahMarie : wasn't it cold around there in October? guess I'm the only one that grew up on Michigan and thought it was cold. guess it's a good thing I moved! Smiley smile

I have told FH he has to take me here one day. I have no idea whereabouts in Michigan it is, but it is just so adorable, and looks super romantic and lovely. Plus I'm obsessed with the names of the rooms.

Holland, MI is gorgeous too, and a little closer to you! Maybe you could stay there after 1 day of driving. It has lighthouses, beautiful beaches and great shopping! I went last September and loved it, even though it was too cold to get in the water! If you do go, try Cranes in the City for cider and donuts!
