October honeymoon thoughts

Teresa, on June 26, 2020 at 8:19 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 34
The FH and I are now at 99 days away and we’re looking deeper in honeymoon options. Please be kind while responding. Not to sound heartless or anything like that but we don’t want any “be responsible And stay home” because of covid answers.
We have decided that while we will not be traveling outside the USA but we’re still wanting to take our honeymoon trip somewhere beautiful. We’re getting married October 3rd and are wondering where everyone else getting married in October is going? We’re thinking Florida but trying to get ideas for other places as well.

    Date twins!
Me and my FH are leaving on the 4th to go up to Gatlinburg TN. We are renting a cabin from the 4th to the 11th. We plan on going to dolly wood, the titanic museum, and the ripely’s aquarium. Our cabin has 4 walking trails, a hot tub and a brick fire place outside. There are also quite a few wineries and breweries that we plan on going to.

If you’re staying within the US, I think that Hawaii would be a nice option! I’m not getting married in October but my cousin is and that’s where she’s going.

You could try a BnB someplace scenic like a lake or the beach. We are doing a mini-moon at a romantic Lakehouse Bed and Breakfast that has a HUGE bathtub like in the movie Pretty Woman. Where are you located in case the forum can come up with some ideas closer to home that might work too? I personally like to find places close enough to drive to so we can splurge on other things we would have spent on airfare. Like massages and stuff.

We are close to Springfield Missouri. But we are hoping for a warm beach or something like that. But not opposed to doing a nice cabin with a Pretty Woman tub either!!!

If you don't want that response, then the only response I can tell you is to postpone until next year.

Pismo beach in California is a great place to travel to, and it's surprisingly really warm there around October. Though in all honesty, if you're going to have a California honeymoon, I recommend renting a car and just make a road trip out of it, going from place to place and so on. Lots of great places here in Cali from Hollywood to the Golden Gate Bridge, and so on.

Hawaii is definitely on the list. Just not sure which island would be the best for an October trip.

No thanks. It’s funny because others have been able to give some ideas. I appreciate the attempt to “help” but it wasn’t needed. We will not stop enjoying our lives and we will continue planning our wedding and honeymoon as responsibly as possible. Hence the reason why we’re staying in the USA and not going overseas like we had planned.

Thank you. I honestly hadn’t thought about California. I haven’t been there since my grandfather passed in 1998.

We’re playing it by ear and will probably do something last minute. It may not be the trip of our dreams, but we’re scheduling the week off after our wedding and may do a vacation or a staycation...who knows?

That is an idea, and it is help.

I live directly across from NYC. My ILs live in NYC. My FIL had the virus, our friends have had it. Some of them lost family to it. I have not worked since March, and my doctor just told me that it is too dangerous for me to return to work until the virus is gone - completely. I am not allowed around people.
You can have a staycation. Save money, enjoy life from home, and go next year, when maybe you can travel internationally.
    Staying home is an idea.
And it's the best one anyone who has gone through this can offer.

Thanks again, just so you understand, I didn’t consider it helpful only because I tried asking politely as possible for ideas other than “stay home”.

I’m sorry you’re unable to work. I would go insane. I’ve never not worked or been told I couldn’t. I’m also sorry that you and yours have had up close experiences with this virus that will never go away. I can appreciate your stance about staying home and staying safe, but that’s just not something we’re going to do.
I wish you and your family all the best!

Hi, just wanted to chime in on the Hawaii suggestions: my brother is stationed there. They are still putting into quarantine anyone flying in for two weeks with consistent testing before letting them loose on the island. From his understanding, they do not plan on stopping that this year.

Thank you. We were thinking a few other places may be doing something like that. We will certainly double check for anything like that before we book. Good to know HI is doing that. I know we’re leaning towards Florida still but just not sold yet. Thankfully we have time still.

Hi!! We’re getting married 10/17 and since our plans for a big, overseas honeymoon are too risky given everything we’ve decided to go to Clearwater beach, fl!! It was between Clearwater or st. Pete beach for us. We’re looking forward to it

Well it's certainly an idea if Hawaii or any other state doesn't end up working for you and your hubby. California is slowly reopening, and if there is one nice thing about Cali, is that there is always somewhere to go and something to do. I like to think entire state is a tourist destination for people.

I recommend checking out: Hollywood, Pismo Beach / Avila Beach (should be warm around October), Disneyland, Monterey Bay Aquarium, San Diego Zoo, Golden Gate Bridge, and more. @_@

Again, I only recommend having your honeymoon in California if you're going to make it a road trip, and you have a good few days off to explore as much of the state as you can.

Again, you asked for advice. As a mod, it's my job to respond. You asked for people to be nice.

    I am being nice.

We took our honeymoon 5 months after we got married. It allowed us to save money, go to our destination at a less busy time, and enjoy ourselves more.

Stay home, go later, you'll have more money for it.

    And, to be less nice:

Most places are implementing quarantines on out-of-state visitors, or reinstating lockdowns. As far as I'm aware, the following states have quarantine rules for most visitors: HI, NY, NJ, CT. I'm also seeing possible restrictions in AK, AZ, ID, ME, MA, NM, NC, ND, PA, VT, and WV. And that's just a cursory google search. Things may change from one week to the next.

You "wish {me} the best".... then, I reiterate, I'm not allowed outside my home except for exercise and essential shopping. When you travel, you extend the length of time I (and others like me) have to stay inside.

I would suggest Puerto Rico. There you will find beaches, rain forest, good food and only a couples of hours away. No passport needed. There is lots to do on any side of the island. Old San Juan is a wonderful place to start. Check out the website
    www.discoverpuertorico.com.

Have a great time in whatever place you decide upon

Fiancé and I are considering Ocean City, MD or Bethany Beach, DE. I was in Bethany as a child and they have an island with wild horses that live on the beach in a national park 🐎
