Super February 2021

Of all the frustrating things...

Kerin, on October 9, 2020 at 4:06 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16

They aren't able to take my money! I know, ridiculous thing to be upset about, but...With 4 months til the wedding and a huge fear of missing the deadline, I'm in panic mode on it. We are honeymooning on South Beach (Miami, FL) in February, and the deadline for payoff is January 8th, but this is the 2nd time I've called to pay the balance and they're all working remotely, so they can take phone calls, but they can't take payments.

I'm so afraid of missing the deadline and our honeymoon being cancelled Smiley cry when Covid 1st started, we received a notification of our trip being cancelled due to non-payment, so I was already in panic mode where this company is concerned (they later apologized and assisted me with setting up the new dates, we had postponed our wedding by 13 months).

Anyway, I'm over here trying to decide if I should payoff something else or wait for them to be able to take the payment. Probably better to wait a little longer Smiley atonished I am terrible when it comes to patience.

Oh man! That would freak me out too! I mean I'm not sure how they operate but from an outsider's standpoint, I don't see why they have at least a couple with the program or at the office to be able to take payments for this specific reason. I think it's crazy that people's trips would be cancelled. Like they shouldn't be able to hold you accountable. I really hope that everything works out for you!

I'm so sorry that they can't take payments! That seems odd, you'd think they would want to be paid... Can you get it in writing from them that they will not cancel your trip due to non-payment? That way, if something happens and they do accidentally cancel it, they'll have to rebook it for you at no additional cost.

Let me get this straight: though none are equipped to take payment over the phone, due to working at home, this is such a small business that they do not have either a mailbox or office receiving mail, to which you could have a bank check sent. Nor do they have money in any mainstream bank account, a business account you could wire money to?

I'm not sure. I hadn't asked. It took 3 phone calls and an email just to get a response. When you call, you reach a concierge desk and they can only put you into the accounting voice mailbox.

This. Make them lock the deal with you in written form.

I have not asked about making payment by any method other than my bank card. The staff at the concierge desk can't do much but transfer calls.

Accounting must have a plan to accept payment other than over the phone. Getting through to them should not have to be so hard. Anxiety producing. Leave a message asking for their routing number.

Have you already given them a deposit? If not move onto another company. It's so simple to set up paypal or any other online payment system that there is absolutely no reason this company can't take your money.

That is very strange. I've never heard of a business being unable to take payments due to working from home.

Yes, we gave them a deposit in 2018, and they said their policy is that they can't refund it, but they can apply it to a future booking as long is it's within 12 months of our previous check in date.

Agreed. I'm wondering if I'm just not getting to a high enough person. Like maybe it's a sales person getting back to me instead of someone in the office. But my name is Kerin (pronounced Karen) so I also don't want to ask for their manager 🤣 (throwing some current day humor in there, though it is a little true)...I'll figure it out, just don't want to end up giving up what we already paid.

If it is a significant amount of money talk to an attorney. That's almost 2 years that they have held onto your deposit. Get an email with them explicitly saying they can't take payments. Make a plan B, not sure how elaborate your plans are, but it might be better to plan everything on your own online. This isn't advice I normally give as a small business owner, when taking into consideration the pandemic, however, they are being evasive and should not be this difficult to do business with.

Thank you Samantha. I'm teetering over that line of reasonable vs. not. I don't want to let my anxiety lead me to making a mess of something if a little patience is all that's needed, but I absolutely suck at being patient, so getting other's responses is helping me see that I wasn't being unreasonable in the 1st place. 🙂 I'm going to reach out to them again next week and, if it's not resolved, start looking elsewhere.
