Officially On The Postponement Train

Jasmine, on January 7, 2021 at 3:54 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 22

30 days out and we are having to postpone because of covid and our state restrictions Smiley cry . We really tried to hold out but didn't think it was fair to wait any longer for those traveling out of state to come. On the flip side, we have more time to focus on a few other things.

All those that postponed, how did ya'll handle it??

I'm so sorry that you had to postpone! Back in summer 2020, my fiance and I had also waited as long as possible in hopes things would improve, but we ended up postponing our July 2020 wedding. We instead planned a super fun weekend getaway for the weekend of our original date. I also had put together a gift basket for my fiance of COVID themed wine glasses, coffee mugs, snacks, etc. for our original date. We also bought a mini cake from our cake baker for us to share on the morning of our original date. When I think back to that day, we have so many happy memories, and I'm so glad we planned the whole thing! It really took away the sadness of postponing. We also love having more time to plan and being able to focus on the smaller details that we didn't have the time to look at before! I strongly suggest first sending something out to your guests to let them know you postponed, and then plan something fun for your original date! Could be a weekend getaway, a night out, a movie night in, etc. You could also do a second set of engagement photos on your original date! Whatever you choose to do, make it a day of happy memories, just as it deserves to be!

So sorry this is happening to you. I've already postponed since last year so I'm going to be pushing through. Over this virus. I'm in a Republican state so restrictions are not so strict. Most likely things will be much better for you, so enjoy the process.

As soon as we decided what we were gonna do, we made sure we contacted all of our guests so that's already taken care of. That's a pretty good idea. Even if it's something simple. I'll definitely need something to take my mind off postponing. Thanks!

We said the same exact thing about moving forward but it is what it is. I do hope things let up later in the year at least.

We decided to postpone even though we were still several months out, however, it wasn't just because of covid that we made the decision but COVID played a little less than half of it. We were originally scheduled for October of 2021. In early November of 2020, my FH's mother fell over in the bathroom one day and later that day went to the ER where we learned she'd had her 9th stroke and thus developed vascular dementia which has severely affected her mobility and cost us several grand in medical bills and house repairs to make the home safe for her that we weren't expecting. We understand that she's much more important than a wedding, of course, so we said we would wait until she was home before we tried to figure anything else out.

Then, just before Thanksgiving, my FH and I caught COVID and I had a hard time breathing from it and wound up seeking medical attention which of course means more bills. As if that weren't enough, my FH then got a very serious infection that almost killed him and basically caused him to have to have emergency surgery that racked up even more thousands of dollars in unexpected bills. At this point we decided we would have to postpone and move closer to home.

We're all back home and I think we're handling it about as well as we can with all of the changes that came on really hard and really fast...but that's life for you I guess?

Oh wow. That's definitely a lot to take in. I couldn't even imagine. I know when the time finally comes again, it will just as special.

    I'm so sorry!

I was just (obsessively, as I do) checking our state's (and my parents' state's) numbers, and.... woof. They are scary.

    Please be safe!!

We unfortunately have made the decision to postpone as well. We were going to go forward with it but after doing the numbers for our state mandate of 10 we wouldn’t even be able to do that so we’re just going to move it to the fall. Hopefully everything will be ok by then.

Man. That's wild. We're hoping things are cleared up or at least less of a hassle for us by fall as well. We haven't even set a new date yet because we'd like to be sure and not be stuck postponing again or canceling.

What’s crazy is I’ve heard places are still taking people money and telling them it’s ok to move forward even though if they get caught your stuck with the fine not them because technically it’s your party they’re just hosting it.

Wow that is crazy. That's exactly what we don't want happening to us. We're over our restricted capacity and I'd hate for anyone to ruin it and we get shut down and/or fined. People can be so ruthless.

Hi EVERYONE.... ITS BEEN A WHIRLWIND FOR SURE.... not sure if anyone else is experiencing this, but our venue is basically forcing us to either hold our wedding in the fall but we now have to rent tents for outside as CT guidelines only allow 25 people inside or if we move to 2022 they want a 15% rebooking fee since they now would have to fill that spot. We chose our venue for the beauty inside and out (Madison Beach Hotel) and never wanted a complete outdoor wedding, especially in October. We get it, they are a business but we feel so forced right now its crazy.

Thanks Lynnie! I sure could use all the hugs I can get. Hopefully we'll still be able to move forward with it again later in the year.

My husband and I are in the same position as well. Our venue called yesterday and said that they aren't able to service our March wedding because their banquet staff are still laid off. I kind've figured covid would get worst thats why we planned a quick minimony in October to get married. But it still sucks because we were really looking forward to doing the big thing Smiley sad
