Hi, I am about to make a first contact with the officiant for our wedding that’s in Oct 1st 2022, but my fiancé and I don’t have much input on what to ask him… we just want a maybe 20-30min ceremony and just pretty much just be married lol, but don’t really know what to ask the Officiant. Things to say/not say - your expectations then they’ll respond with theirs. Religion comes up so be prepared. Jokes yes/no? They’ll want to know a little about both of you, how u met, likes/dislikes, backgrounds, etc. they’re basically preparing a speech before they go into the routine. Are u writing or saying your own vows? Do u have anything you want traditionally to happen during the ceremony type of things…

    • Can you give us an overview of the service?

How long is the typical ceremony?

Can we help personalize the ceremony? If so, will you provide guidelines?

Can we include family members/friends in the service by assigning readings (i.e. a poem, passage from contemporary literature)?

Will you give a sermon or speech? If so, can we see a copy of what you’ll say before the wedding?

Is there a fee, or a recommended donation amount for your services and/or use of the church?

I would add ask how often you'll meet/talk proir to the ceremony. We met with our officiant 3 times. It doesn't seem like much but it was enough that he was able to get to know us and make our ceremony very personal to us. not just a generic ceremony.

Also, find out how many ceremonies do they do in a weekend. You don't want them to be overbooked and potentially be late or miss your wedding. Ideally they should arrive approx 30 mins prior to our ceremony.
Most importantly, the financial question. What is included in the fee/any hidden fees you should be aware of? How much deposit do you been to put down and what is the payment schedule?
