Ok to not be “extra”?

So I keep hearing from my sisters, friends, and even my mom that your wedding day is the one day everyone expects you to be over the top and “extra” (in appearance, not a bridezilla!) So I keep hearing from my sisters, friends, and even my mom that your wedding day is the one day everyone expects you to be over the top and “extra” (in appearance, not a bridezilla!) My mom and sisters wanted to make a day of shoe and jewelry shopping, and were really disappointed when I said I didn’t want to get either. I ended up having a pair of heels in my closet that I’ve only worn once that I think will look perfect with my dress, so I don’t see a point in buying new shoes when I already own perfect ones. Also, I don’t think my dress really needs accessories. I like the idea of it being the main focus. The same with my engagement and wedding rings- I like the idea of them being the only jewelry I wear, since they are so important and symbolic of the vows we are taking that day. But my mom and sisters feel that I need earrings, a cocktail ring, and a bracelet. The more I hear them say this, the more I have began to doubt myself. I don’t want to look “plain” or underwhelming on my wedding day! I would really appreciate some unbiased feedback from you ladies! I am attaching photos of my dress and shoes. I also plan to wear a very simple veil like the one pictured (I am being told I should get a heavily embellished veil instead). Do you think just the shoes and veil will be enough? Or will I look too plain?

I think your choices will be perfect! I don’t think you need a cocktail ring, necklace, embellished veil, or bracelet at all. The only thing that I might consider is a pair of simple earring, maybe pearls or diamond studs.

Thanks Kylie! It’s so nice having the unbiased opinion of strangers! I absolutely agree that adding a bunch of extras just for the sake of being “Extra” can turn out overdone and gaudy. I am going to take your advice and see if mom and the sisters want to go shopping for rehearsal dinner jewelry and accessories! I will include a picture of the dress since you asked to see it 💕 I feel like it is also a statement piece dress, but since it is plain black I think it could support some beautiful jewelry (maybe earrings and cocktail ring?) and shoes. What do you think?

Your dress and shoes are stunning on their own. If you're having your hair up, you could do a simple pair of earrings, but honestly I think anything else would distract from the dress, which is a statement piece itself.

Rehearsal dinner dress is slamming too! I think a cocktail ring in a deep jewel tone would be gorgeous—or earrings, but studs, nothing dangly.

This outfit is gorgeous. Even without additional jewelry.

You could show up in the photos you posted and be a showstopper. You should wear what you are comfortable in.

Or go with Coco Chanel's advice..."When putting on accessories, take off the last thing you've put on"
