Hello all! Just wanted to see if anyone else was going old school and doing the whole "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue"?

If you are - how are you incorporating these items into your outfit? Is there anything you're tweaking slightly? If not - why did you chose not to?

For me, I am doing it - I think its fun! Here are mine:

Old: the two necklaces I am wearing. One was made out of my maternal grandmother's engagement ring (I'm also wearing her wedding ring on my right hand) and the other was made out of a tie clip from my paternal grandfather.

New: My dress and my shoes!!

Borrowed: My mother is lending me a pearl and onyx bracelet that will blend seamlessly with my other accessories.

Blue: I have a small pair of studs that I just purchased that I'll wear in my 3rd hole (the top one, and where I put small studs usually) that are blue aquamarines - which happens to be my fiancé's birthstone!

What is the significance of a silver sixpence? Is it the whole - good luck and good fortune thing? Is there a meaning behind it being specifically a sixpence? I've never heard of including this and I am fascinated!

My husband and MIL gave those items as surprise gifts to me beforehand and I felt quite honored to be able to use/wear them in our wedding.

You could always do something like a new wallet, a video game (if that's something he likes to do), gift cards for date nights (could be combined with the new wallet), a fancy watch (if he wears watches), books, or even experiences like a vacation, go kart racing, beer/wine tasting, a sunset dinner cruise, cooking classes, etc. Though I'm sure his favorite gift will be getting a wife!

The silver sixpence is an English thing for luck and prosperity! The saying technically goes:

"Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence for her shoe"

Old- earrings. I wear pearl studs daily I didn't feel my wedding day should be different.

    New- Dress

Borrowed- Our couple's counselor let me borrow her tiara. She actually surprised me with it! Since I didn't intend to have it on I didn't have my hair done for a tiara. So ladies, if you are using a tiara take it to the hairdresser's with you! Our photographer captured the moment below after I saw the tiara. My original borrowed was my grandma's watch on my wedding bouquet. But it was technically mine at that point but hers if you know what I mean.

Blue- My necklace. I have an odd attachment to a replica Heart of the Ocean necklace I've had since I was 13. So I guess it's old and blue.

I love that you kept your regular earrings. I'm all for fun new things but it should still look like you at the end of the day! You looked amazing! I love that your something blue was a replica heart of the ocean. As someone who saw Titanic way too many times in the theaters, I am 100% here for it!

I’m definitely doing it! It’s a fun tradition that I feel like I don’t have to take too seriously and can have some fun with.
My old and blue are the same - a necklace with my birthstone (blue topaz) that my fiancé gave me on our first Valentine’s Day.
New: custom wedding converse to wear under my dress!Still working on my borrowed though…

Love this! I had zero plans and then suddenly realized I was so close that it just seemed like a fun addition to the day! I love that you don’t have to take the tradition too seriously and can really make it your own.

I am definitely doing this but I am struggling on old and borrowed! My dress will be new, and my shoes and garter will be blue. I was going to borrow my mom’s diamond earrings, but we decided I needed more dramatic earrings based on my hairstyle abd dress. So still looking for something old and something borrowed. Great ideas in this thread though!

    Love this

Something new - that is easy many pieces will be

Something blue - my dad's cufflink at his wedding was gold and blue stone - so I plan to have it in an organza satchel pinned to my dress (inside) and I got new glasses, blue frames

Something old - my dad's cufflink at his wedding was gold and blue stone - so I plan to have it in an organza satchel pinned to my dress (inside) Smiley love

Something borrowed - I am thinking of asking my mother for one of her handkerchiefs for our special day Smiley cry

I'm hoping to do this! The only thing I haven't decided is my "borrowed" - I'll likely ask either my Matron of Honor or the other married bridesmaid in my party for something.

Old: mini satin bow with rhinestone middle from my mom's wedding shoes (think 80s Smiley laugh ) will be added to the ribbon that's tying my bouquet

New: dress? veil? earrings? a lot could fit this

Blue: my shoes have a light blue sole

Old: Pretty much everything in my wedding attire! 1930s wedding dress, 1920s veil, 1930s wax flower crown, 1920s garters, 1920s parasol (in case it rains), 1930s rabbit fur cape (in case its cold), 1920s beaded purse, 1930s bracelets, 1920s necklace, my great-grandmother's 1900s wedding ring, my grandmother's 1940s wedding ring, my mom's 1950s ring, and my 1920s engagement ring.

New: I'm more stuck on this one since I'm trying to wear all vintage. Currently my shoes are new, but looking for a vintage pair. Maybe my undergarments? I'm hoping someone gifts me something small for this.

Borrowed: I'm borrowing a button from my grandmother's wedding dress to add to my garter and hoping for either borrowing a button from my sister's wedding dress or borrowing some earrings that were my sister's since my sister passed away several years ago.

Blue: I have a vintage bracelet and ring both with blue stones in them.

Sixpence: I'll have a hundred year old sixpence in my left shoe.

Oh thats so nice! I love when things do double duty. You could also have the cufflink woven into any ribbon you are using for your bouquet if you wanted it shown!

I LOVE that so many of you are including something from your mom's wedding dresses. My parents got married in the 70s and our styles are... not even close to the same. But we found the same lace that she used when she made her dress and she's putting a single piece on mine.

Ummm this sounds amazing. I hope you post pictures because this sounds so fantastic! I love the vintage approach. My original wedding hopes were to do a 1920s vintage situation, but the venue I wanted is no longer operational - but this sounds like my vintage wedding dreams!
