Old, New, Borrowed, Blue (with a twist)

Sexypoodle, on September 29, 2021 at 4:02 PM Posted in Planning 2 15

I had not intended to do the “old, new, borrow, blue” tradition. But, apparently I am now!!

After a nearly 3 year engagement (due to postponing), we canceled our 70 guest wedding at only 2-months out and decided to elope in Hawaii with just the two of us. But this morning, my two best friends completely surprised me with this cute text…

Old, New, Borrowed, Blue (with a twist) 1

I can’t wait to see what they come up with. Their thoughtfulness makes the tradition feel BEYOND sentimental now! 🥰🥲❤️

If you’re incorporating this tradition, what are you using as your old, new, borrowed, blue? (include pics if you have them)!!

Wow how sweet! So curious to see what they come up with!

    I’m using the following-
Something old- a handkerchief passed down from my future MIL (it was her grandma’s). I’m holding it around my bouquet when I walk down the aisle.
Something borrowed- I’m using one layer of my mom’s veil for my veil
Something blue- my brother passed away last year and always wore this blue bracelet so I’m using that. I’m also using a blue ring that was passed down to me from my fiancé’s side of the family.
Something new- I never quite understood this one because so much is new so… my dress, shoes, earrings, hair piece, everything else?!

    Mine were as follows:

Something Old: an antique wishbone pin from my mom

    Something New: my garter

Something Borrowed: my sister's handkerchief that she carried at her wedding

Something Blue: an aquamarine bracelet given to me by my other sister (my birthstone)

I have considered repeating this tradition with our vow renewal for "continued" happiness. If I do, my something old will be something made from the lace of my wedding dress (like a handkerchief) and my something blue will be a blue bear brooch (in honor of my dad). I also have sixpence (the oft-forgotten part of the tradition) from 100 years before our wedding.

It’s too cute especially since I had no idea. We didn’t have a wedding party but after canceling, we only told our parents and 5 five friends about the elopement plan. So these are 2 of them who know about it. I love it and will post pics!

It’s very touching and having those items on wedding day will be emotional, as well as, comforting. FH proposed a during a trip to Hawaii, so that makes the location special because we’re coming full circle by getting married there. Also, these are 2 out of 3 friends I called after he proposed. Unfortunately the third one passed away a month later, as she was battling pancreatic cancer (I’m thankful that she was able to share that experience). So I’m really sorry to hear about your brother. But having him there via the bracelet is very special. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing! I like your idea of repeating the tradition for the vow renewal. And, yes, the sixpence is always missed and probably harder to come by. So good for you 😃

Thank you! I’ll certainly post pics once I have all four items. Yesterday I received the “something old”. We have one month to go. So maybe something will arrive each week leading up to the wedding. It’s a fun surprise!

Aww this is beyond sweet! With all the ups and downs you've been having it seems your friends want to make sure you feel extra special.

    For mine:

Old- my earrings. I wear just simple pearl earrings daily.

    New- my dress and shoes

Borrowed- my tiara, I wasn't even going to do this but then when my couple's mentor came she brought HER wedding tiara and she wanted me to wear it. My hair wasn't done for that but I did anyway because it was just soooo sweet.

    Blue- my necklace

    Without the tiara

Old, New, Borrowed, Blue (with a twist) 2

Shoes, you can kind of see them peaking out here with the tiara

Old, New, Borrowed, Blue (with a twist) 3
