Ok, FH thinks they are stupid, BFF thinks they are inappropriate for an afternoon wedding. (Like people are more likely to shed a tear at an evening wedding?), A wedding blogger I read says you are a narcissist if you think people care enough about you to cry at your wedding, and one bride on WW posted that nobody took them and they had a ton left over. I personally think they are a cute idea because I always cry at weddings-- and I have so much left over Vista Print crap that it kills me to toss it if I can possibly use it somewhere.

Please weigh in brides who had these at your weddings and what happened with them. Thanks a bunch!!! Sorry if this is somewhere else on the boards, but my search only brought up DIY posts, not anything about how they were received at the actual ceremonies.

I made mine and everyone loved them and they came in handy when my mom and everyone else got emotional. I made mine and spent about $10 on 100.

It definitely won't break the bank to make them.

That's a healthy sized church! Wow!

Yeah, if you're waffling I would skip it. At least for me - I feel like I have so much that ABSOLUTELY MUST be done and I'm a little overwhelmed with that, I can't imagine taking on any projects that weren't 100% necessary. Even if they're tiny packets of tissues.

Are you 100% done with your dress or are you still doing any adjustments? I know you posted it last week and it's amazing! I just can't remember if you had totally finished it.

Great subject. I have always wondered what people thought.

I agree that they are cute, but can see where they are an overkill.

I think the only people who might cry will be the two moms, so from oriental trading I bought them each "mom" handkerchiefs Smiley smile

Didn't do it as a bride, but as a guest I would probably think the bride would have been wiser spending her money on something else. But then, there have only been 2 weddings were I've actually cried, so go figure - I just don't get that emotional at weddings. And, whenever I attend events where I suspect things might get emotional (weddings, christenings, bar/bat miztvahs, funerals), I always bring tissue with me. Besides, once the guests use the tissues, what do they do with them? Do you also have to have trash cans positioned strategically around the ceremony site, with signs saying, "Dispose Tears of Joy tissue here?"

    Eh, not a fan, personally.

I'm a big crier at weddings and I always forget to bring tissues — so I'm doing a "For Your Happy Tears" but with vintage handkerchiefs instead of tissues. It goes with our theme, I found a lot for an amazing price, and I figure it's a keepsake as well. I kinda hope that no one takes them though, because I want to keep all the hankies! They are so pretty.

But I've never been to a wedding that had the tissue packs (or hankies) and I would have been very appreciative of them many times.

I'm just going to be honest, I went to a family members wedding and ended up crying for no reason at and had absolutely no tissues. I think the best thing to do (and this is what I've decided I'm doing) is to put a basket out with a few (maybe a dozen or so) tissue packets. Instead of making them about you, just put "For your Tears of Joy" on them. Since they will look generic, most people will assume they were put out by the venue and therefore can't say you're narcicistic (or whatever) but for those people who will need them they are there.

Jennifer, that's a great idea. I can't believe all the gals who have posted on this topic--thanks! It seems as there is a valid argument for both views. It's as lively a topic as cash bars or only inviting half of your guests to the reception, LOL--just a much friendlier conversation. :-)

I'm doing them because I think it's a cute idea, but I'm only making 40 of them for my small ceremony, everyone's right, you could get stuck with a lot of leftovers if you have to many.

Well Mouche, since I already have the decorative stuff I would use, all I would need would be the little envelopes. And with allergies, sinus trouble and cold and flus, tissues are always a hot item at our house. Left overs would be no big deal. lol

I don't think it's pretentious at all; I think it's thoughtful. We didn't have them, but should have, because my family is dramatically emotional. Or emotionally dramatic. But my cousin had them, and on our side of the church, they were almost all gone.

Stop it already!!! LOL--you gals were supposed to help me decide. You are almost evenly divided on this. So, there I sit, with my fat old ass drooping over both sides of the fence.

I think you should do them Julie, I think it would be really nice and the thought of it being pretentious never entered my mind. Plus you have most of the stuff and I remember how excited you were about doing these. Smiley smile

I was planning on buying tissues, whether they get used or not, if they don't get used I'll take them home and FH and I will have something to wipe our noses with when we get the sniffles...

OMG! Monogrammed toilet paper?!?!?!? I can't believe I didn't think of that. LMFAO!

    Here's the poem:

For a good time call Susie (555) 867-5309

    or

    When you tinkle

    and you sprinkle

    please be neat

    and wipe the seat

Oh wait - those are what's written on the bathroom wall not the wedding TP. Let's try this:

    Oh happily may they be

    Even for when they pee

What a gracious and happy bride

For she has given us all quilted two ply

May their union always be blessed

May the groom know keeping the seat down is best
