What’s your second cake idea choice? My mom attended a wedding today and their cake was a guitar because that’s his instrument he plays. I’m curious if we should have an additional cake or not. Our venue is providing our main cake.cfb_1530717.jpg

Having the second cake is more of a personal preference. Kind of like having a second dress. Not a requirement, but more of a trend. I think they're a fun way to add some personality into the reception, but definitely not something to break the budget over. I would have been fine with having one, but my fiancé didn't want one so that was it 🤷‍♀️

This makes sense. I think saving the top tier is something we could do. Especially if it doesn’t get eaten.

Yeah- I think one is more than enough. I honestly don’t really like cake unless it’s caramel cake lol so to have an extra is definitely not something I have to have.

I only did one because i really just liked the look of having a traditional three tiered cake

Literally same! Something about the 3 tier just really stands out to me. I’ve looked at alternative cake options but I like the elegance I guess of the 3 tiered.

A second cake is never required. Some couples don’t even want the first cake, even though their guests may be looking forward to it.

Is a second cake common in your families or social circle? A groom’s cake is common in the South. It’s traditionally chocolate or whatever flavor the groom likes best, because the main cake is traditionally 3+ tiers of all white cake. It gives guests a flavor option if there are no multiple flavors in the main cake. But not everyone has one. Don’t ever feel pressured to include anything you don’t want or can’t afford. Especially if it has zero bearing on guest comfort.

Thanks Michelle! I think we will pass on the second cake, I doubt everyone would want cake anyway. I am almost considering a 2 tiered cake instead of 3. But we might go with 3 just in case our guest surprise us and eat most of it.

Every group is different. But as a guest, the only time I have ever seen people not touch the cake is when it was an odd flavor that didn’t appeal. Guava or banana or similar. Otherwise it’s usually devoured with guests hoping for seconds.

That’s interesting. The last two I went to there was so much left over. I myself didn’t have any cake. Also, not thinking about guava or banana for flavor lol so we might be good.

We are doing a three tier wedding cake with varying flavors. And a donut bar per my fiance's request.

The donut bar is unique! Are they assorted donuts?

We actually had a donut tasting Haha! And narrowed it down to 4 flavors we loved. The caterer suggested we keep it to 5 or less because you don’t want to give your guests too many options.

Oh how nice! Never knew that was even a thing. 4 options is better than 2! and there’s cake.

I actually don't think I have ever been to a wedding that had a wedding cake and then a completely different cake for the spouse, I believe this a southern tradition. However the spin that I have noticed in my circle is a traditional wedding cake at the reception and then a fun (often surprise) cake at the rehearsal dinner that often highlights the partners hobbies/ interest. If there room in the budget it could be fun but not a necessity.

That might be a good idea for the rehearsal dinner. I didn’t think about that. We have a friend who does cakes, we could ask her to make one for us. Nothing too expensive.
