Online Wedding Live Streaming

Kyle, on August 7, 2013 at 2:09 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 21

Does anyone have knowledge of steaming their wedding live online? With our wedding being across the country, we thought this might be a fun way for some friends back home to watch us exchange vows.

Does anyone know of an affordable option for this?

Gosh Kyle, I was just thinking the same thing. How awesome it would be. I know my cousin's in London are considering this for their wedding...so hopefully I'll be able to watch. I'm considering this for my own as well. Hopefully you get some answers.

I was just going to use Skype if my Nana isn't in good enough health by our date to let them see. I'd just have someone volunteer to use their tablet or phone who is at the wedding and have my aunt connect in from a few states over. That would be FREE! It does require wi-fi and it may not be the best quality video but would be better than nothing. I'll share my wedding video after the fact as well

My friends did it when they got married in Vegas - it was a very cool experience to see them get married even though we couldn't get to Vegas.

Check with your venue to see if they've accomodated this before - they might have a suggestion for you.

If not - can you designate a "skyper" for the ceremony? Maybe a friend with a steady hand?

With Skype, can multiple people watch at once? I've only used it once with a singular screen share.

Our ceremony is outdoors in a park, there is no one to speak with. Smiley smile

(Livestreaming, huzzah, something I can actually be helpful about since it's part of my work.)

You could also try some of the generic live streaming websites. It'd mean needing a laptop (possibly, I'm not sure if they've brought in an app yet) but is most likely better quality than a Skype call.

JustinTV (The same guys behind TwitchTV, so pretty sure either support twitter can help) is a good option, the quality it streams at will be the quality it's captured at - plus, their tech guys are really helpful (you can tweet at them for support, and may be able to give them forward notice you'll be streaming a wedding so they can have someone keep an eye on things their side/offer assistance if they can).

It also has an embed option, so technically you could embed the live feed into your wedding website (I think)

I love the idea of live streaming!

Wish I knew more about it to help you out but, I never even thought about it until you said something!

Such great info!!! my FH has a cousin in Colorado who cannot make it because he is severely disabled. they are really close, grew up as brothers, and we wanted to do the same thing!! we were going to use skype, but i like the idea of finding something a little more reliable. Thank you Kyle for asking this question!

One of my recent weddings was Skype'd to the bride's mom who was out of the country. They used a laptop. That's all I know about it. Mom was able to see and hear the ceremony.

I know a couple who got married fast because the brides father made a turn for the worse and wasn't going to live past the week. They set up Skype accounts and a few people had computers and this allowed everyone to be there.

I think Skype is the easiest thing maybe facetime too?

I think just 1 person needs skype premium to have video with multiple people. They do free trials so you could just do a free trial during your wedding month.

I'm in the same boat. most family and friends are scattered across the country.

I think I"m just going to use yahoo messenger, since many people I know complain that skype is too much of a resource hog.

I'm going to see what kind of internet will be available to me through the church.

in the end, I think I may just record it and send copies. that way I have the option to edit it! Smiley winking

My venue has this as part of the package we chose. I don’t think I will be using it, maybe ask the venue? Maybe they can lead you in the right direction; I’m sure someone has done it before? Good Luck.

I'm glad someone brought this up...my mother is elderly and won't be able to make it to our wedding because she doesn't travel anymore, so I'm hoping to arrange a way for her to see it live. I've thought of Skype, but don't know who I'd get to be our "Skyper" on this end. I found the article linked in Briggitte's post above to be helpful.

Hi everyone, not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but just in case you are I figured I could add some insights to this discussion. Full disclosure - I have a company that specializes in broadcasting weddings online, although I can appreciate that not everyone will want a paid service. Depending on your needs, there are some good free alternatives out there.

Probably the biggest limitations to Skype and Google Hangouts is quality (low resolution, webcam quality), the size of the online audience (1-10 people last time I checked) and necessity of a Skype or Google ID to login. Still, if you can deal with the lower resolution and have a small audience, this can be a easy to use and free solution.
