Open Bar Frozen Drinks?

2YearsAway, on March 31, 2016 at 4:24 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 25

Anyone ever had frozen drinks at an outdoor wedding? I actually only want one and I guess I would call it my "signature" drink (even though I didn't really want a signature drink). Every summer my mom makes a huge container of Vodka Slushes. They are my favorite and I would love to have them at the wedding - especially because it will be August and hot as balls. I'm trying to think logistics though. I am providing all of the alcohol (full open bar), and mixers so I;m guessing I can bring containers of the slushes already mixed and frozen and the bartenders could just scoop it into glasses. Or would that slow down the lines too much? I'm not sure how I would make sure they stay frozen without having a bunch of coolers to put the containers in. Maybe those metal tubs? Or maybe I can make them into popsicles in those plastic squeeze tubes!

There is a company where I'm getting married that rents them out with all the supplies. In some cases they have an employee do the machine and cups so the line goes quickly. For the record, they are really, really good.

What about renting one of those slushy margarita machines?

I can't imagine the bartenders being happy about the mess of loose slushies and trying to scoop them into cups.

ETA: Contact party supply rental companies. They should be easy to find

I love everything about this idea.

However, bartenders will likely not be comfortable serving from something that is already open/tampered with. Talk to your caterer and see what your options are. Maybe if you give them all the ingredients they can freeze it overnight.

Oh ya, didnt even think of blenders! That would work. If you pre-make the slashes hours earlier, I don't think they will stay a good consistency sitting in a tub of ice

It isn't something that is blended so I'm not sure one of the machines would work. But I do have one of those margaritavilla margarita makers taking up space in my garage, I should pull it out and try it. The consistency of the slush isn't as thin as a frozen margarita or strawberry daiquiri you get at a restaurant. Vodka slush freezes to a point where it is almost like sorbet, so it can be scooped with an ice cream scoop into a glass, then topped off with sprite - or another shot of vodka Smiley smile But the more I think about it, I think the popsicle thing would be cool - something different and easier to just pile up one metal tub with those icee pop plastic sleeves filled with the slush.

Aren't those machines loud? Or am I thinking of something else?

If it's scoop able into glasses, could you have that done ahead of time in keep them in a freezer? If you start running low, then one of the bartenders could start scooping from there but at least if they are "pre scooped" it would move faster. Sounds delicious!

It's slow and noisy. Pre scooped is the only way to go.

Why are you having an outdoor wedding in august if it will be hot as balls?

If it's hot as balls are they going to have a giant freezer outdoors? I know most bartenders and venues won't be okay serving a pre-mixed concoction as they don't know how much alcohol is in it.

Will your venue allow you to bring already open containers? Some good points here.

I don't see where you said your wedding is actually outdoors...so I won't assume that. I hope it's not exclusively outdoors.

I think a good midpoint to talk about with your venue/bartenders would be to have "mini shots". That way everyone can get a taste and grab more if they like them. Some people may not want them and waste a whole cup. You could also probably pre make these much easier.

If you are having a small wedding (like, really really small) I would consider a machine, but other than that, it's just going to piss off your bartenders. We thought about it and decided against it. I'm pretty sure you can hire people to exclusively work the slushie machines to take the pressure off your official bartenders, but i'm not sure exactly how it would work with it being YOUR concoction. Any time I have seen this, it's been something the catering company hires out.

Check out party rental companies, but before you do ANYTHING I would call your venue and ask them if they have seen this SUCCESSFULLY done before.

I'm having an outdoor wedding because I want one Smiley smile And it might be hot as balls - it might be 75, who knows. It's tented and there is a manor house that will have seating, drinks, etc. if people get super hot and want to go inside and cool off. The kitchen is also inside for food/drink storage but the caterers will set up food/bars outside in the tent.

Good point about them not knowing how much alcohol, I'll talk to my caterer. I'm bringing my own cookies so hopefully they won't have a problem with liquor-sickles.

I want to do something like this. I still might to be honest. I found a few companies I can rent from. One that will even come by and set up and get it started for me. If I do not do this for the wedding itself. The next day we are having a lake party and I will have it for that.

My caterer said we can bring our own Liquor-sicles! I'll just make them in the popsicle sleeves, keep them in a cooler and people can eat them as slushiesicles or the bartender can put them in a glass and top off. I'm stupid excited about this!

Don't they not allowed anything that's been tampered with? Like I know my caterer said that if i want any bottles of choice I have to bring them closes or they cannot be served.

I am providing all of the alcohol, mixers and non-alcoholic drinks (except the fancy lemonades that we will have out for the ceremony). They said it was fine if I wanted to bring popsicles, just make sure I have a cooler that can transport them and keep them frozen, which I do.
