I'm going to go to our local liquor stores and see if they offer a discount and other places

I personally don't find anything wrong with paying for drinks at a wedding! I've been to three in the last couple of years that held a cocktail hour where all the drinks were free, then after that hour, guests paid for drinks. As a guest, I felt that was totally fine! I already had an hour of free drinks, free food, music, an awesome party, and a beautiful venue. I think it's more about what you can afford and what YOU think is acceptable. This celebration is about you and your boo! Smiley heart

Can you do a hosted bar up to a certain $$$? That's what my fiance and I may do for our crowd. We'd figure each person would have an average of two drinks but not everyone drinks. I've been to many events where I ended up paying for my own drinks if I wanted more than the allotted amount.

You can save money by not doing a top shelf. People will drink what’s available. Also the food ans DJ is the most important. I like an open bar that’s what I am doing for my daughters wedding. You can also do a signature drink with a cash bar. That would seem like you are still offering. I would do a cash bar for both. Or you can just do a signature drink for cocktail hour

No, the ceremony is about the bride and groom. The reception is about hosting your guests and thanking them for coming with complimentary food and drink.

We are doing an open bar for 4 out of 5 hours of our reception, including our cocktail hour. Maybe you can do something like that?

Yes I was thinking something along that line just wasn't sure being tho that we had to push or wedding to and evening wedding. So with that being said 5 hour and then anything after that they may have to pay. The reception will end at 12mid

Agree to disagree! I was just sharing my opinion from the perspective as a guest. I’ve never minded paying for drinks to save the people I love some money! 💕

I'd say open bar but you don't necessarily need top shelf stuff. You could always have a cash bar option FOR top shelf though. That way if a guest doesn't want what you're offering they can pay for it themselves.

Exactly but again didn't want to offend anyone but I have some ppl who drink Tequila Grey goose Tito etc. But I think that is wrong to ask that but still do a 4 or 5 hr cocktail and reception. I still have time. But we will have to make a final decision

Do what feels right for you at YOUR wedding. People are coming to celebrate you and your forever person, not criticize bar options. Good luck Smiley smile

I’m going to put my two cents out there, if you cannot afford an open bar THAT IS PERFECTLY FINE, you have spent thousands of dollars on a wedding and if your guests don’t want to pay for their own alcohol at your event then guess what? They can be sober because you’ve already provided them with food, and a place to hang out and have fun for the evening so there is absolutely no reason you should feel forced into having an open bar.
