Of course, I don’t want any bride to feel stressed or upset over anything surrounding their big day.

Yes we dont but this is important to but since the wedding is a evening wedding I think it should be half because cocktail hr will not be long because we need to get started with the reception we only have until 12mid. I'll see much the alcohol will cost

No, it's not an 'agree to disagree' topic. That's what a reception is for - the guests.

I personally am doing a cash bar. I don’t drink and I’m not trying to have a bunch of drunks at my wedding. So I feel like I can limit it if they have to buy it themselves. I’m also only doing a beer/wine bar. I don’t really care of my guests think I’m cheap for making it a cash bar.

I think everyone here is missing the point of a wedding on a budget. You are inviting close friends and family and they will understand that you don't have thousands of dollars laying around to pay so they can get drunk. Cash bar is more than acceptable.

If you’re buying the alcohol yourself, I’d double check with your venue on whether you’re even allowed to make it a cash bar. Some states have very strict liquor licensing rules on who can and when/how liquor can be sold.

Right, I’m not saying alcohol isn’t allowed. I’m saying you may not be able to charge your guests for it. Especially if you’re purchasing from an outside place such as a liquor store. If the venue provides the alcohol, they also have a liquor license to sell it. I would just cross all your T’s and dot your I’s and get it in your contract before trying to profit off the sale of alcohol.

This is definitely true, they may allow you to provide it, however it may be illegal to sell it to the guests at the wedding. Definitely check with your state.

I know people have brought it up already, but we are doing beer and wine to save cost on an open bar (which is still almost double the price of the venue x_x)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with a cash bar. Like I said, I don’t drink at all, so I’m definitely not going to sit here and pay for everyone else’s drinks. My fiancé’s best friend is a high functioning alcoholic and could probably drink everyone at the reception under the table. I do not want to pay for that lol!
I am also having an evening wedding and I think it’s way more important to provide a full meal for my guests. I’m asking them to give up their dinner time to attend my wedding. So I feel as though I’m making up for it in that way. Now they don’t have to leave and go find dinner.
