Open/limited Bar!??

Tyesha, on March 4, 2021 at 10:55 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 33

Thoughts feelings on Limited Bar versus Open Bar. We are usually the ones getting everyone wasted. Super torn on this one.

What do you mean by limited? Beer and wine only? Or free drinks for only a certain amount of time?

I think it is a know your crowd and your budget. We are not heavy drinkers so we are just doing beer and wine. But if you wanna go all out, do it!

It depends on what kind of “limited” you’re referring to.

What do you mean by "limited"? If you mean beer and wine only, that's totally fine if you're not having a formal wedding. As long as guests don't have to open up their wallets, you're good.

As long as you don't make guests open their wallets for anything, you should fine. But also make sure that your menu is catered to your guests. Don't serve beer/wine only if the majority of your crowd only drinks liquor.

Most places have wine/sodas and maybe a specialty drink possibly free... anything else would be a charge

Were not big on beer, wine and liquor. So I am kinda stuck on paying for open bar because I do not want the guest to pay anything.

Yes this seems to be the description with most places as limited.

One of the best things about weddings is the open bar, specially if you know your guests like liquor. If your budget allows, I totally vote for open bar.

Do not have any option where guests pay themselves. Do not let your venue pressure you into it. It you can't afford something, don't have it available period.

What do you and your guests drink? Since those are part of every alcoholic bar.

Whatever is available should be paid for by you, but you don't have to have EVERYTHING available. If you and your guests drink wine and mostly vodka drinks, then see if you can just provide that (just as an example).

If your guests don't drink much or barely any of them do, you could just pay by the drink after the end of the night instead of paying a per person fee.

You will end paying more per drink because bartenders charge for a full drink if anyone takes a sip, gets up to leave and comes back to drink that they have to get another. The bill will easily be more than you agreed on. Per person is the only way to go on a budget.

I think the most important thing is not having your guests pay for anything + not giving them the option to pay for anything either. For example, if you can only afford wine, beer, and soda, then only offer wine beer and soda. Don't have anything available that the guests would have to purchase

In my opinion I think the best way to go is full open bar. It’s your wedding so think about it, it’s the one time in your life where you can party like a rockstar and go all out.
Plus, some people don’t like beer or wine, and only drink martinis or vodka soda water etc.
I’d say if you can afford it to definitely just get full open bar
