Opinions?! The Davis’ or The Davises for greenery wall 1

Sooo I’m having one of those grass walls at my wedding, and I want to put our new last name on the. Commonly people put thing like “The Smiths” or “The Johnsons”. My new last name will be Davis, and ik grammatically it should be Davis’, but I don’t think I can get an apostrophe on the wood cut out.
So what do you guys think? Should I put “the davises” or scrap that idea and put “Mr & Mrs Davis”?

The correct would actually be Davises. Davis’ is possessive.

Grammatically, it should be The Davises. Apostrophes make words possessive, not plural. I can sympathize - my new last name ends in S and the plural form just looks weird! If you want to avoid that, either Davis or Mr. & Mrs. Davis would work.

Idk why it looks so strange to me that way… probably because I’ve been staring at it for so long 😂

I hear you! My family was the Jenningses 🤷‍♀️😂 But I read that if a last name is already plural, like Miles or Rogers, then you don't put an -es. Sorry that doesn't help you just wanted to add that fun fact.

You could also do Mr. & Mrs. Davis to avoid the awkward pluralization altogether

You get it the struggle 😂
Everywhere I looked was also conflicting. But I think I’m gonna skip it and go with Mr and Mrs.

I had this same problem with our guest book (it’s actually a wooden board with a tree with leaves people sign). My new last name will be Demnowicz and I was like ehhhhh I don’t want it to say “the demnowiczes” so I just left out “the” and had them put Demnowicz. Can you just do your last name with no “the”?

This will be my new last name too! I just went with “Davis” for our sign because the other options looked odd to me.

English teacher here- Grammatically is the Davises… Davis’ would suggest that multiple Davis own something.
