Orange theory fitness reviews?!

Cara, on August 3, 2017 at 10:56 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 18

I'm becoming more and more interested in Orange Theory Fitness classes and was wondering if anybody takes them and what they think of it? How is the pricing and do you feel that it's appropriately priced for what you get? For those who don't know Orange Theory Fitness is a cardio and strengthening program that operates by measuring your heart rate during workouts! It seems to have awesome results for people so I'm looking for some opinions from those who have taken! Thanks Smiley smile

I haven't done it but a lot of my masters swim team and runner friends do it religiously to supplement training. It can be a really hard workout for people in great shape but I think you go at your own pace kind-of like crossfit. Give it a try! I'm about 95% sure you can try a class for free.

I use OrangeTheory and I like it a lot because I have a hard time working out on my own. It's very well structured but you can adjust to fit your fitness level/goals. The trainers are great and very helpful. I pay $119/month for 8 classes a month. Also, your first class is free so you can always try it and if you hate it not do it.

I do OTF and pay $109 for 8 classes a month. You can also do unlimited per month for $169(in my area). I have been doing it for the last few months and I do enjoy it. I get bored with my workouts and like it because it's different every class. Agree with PP to try your first class for free.

Thank you everyone! I did read that there's a free class so I think I'm going to give it a try! I'm physically fit as it is but I'm really looking to cut and trim my body for the wedding. Do you feel that the 8x a month is enough to really trim up? I would most likely do that option and supplement with running on my own as well. I used to be a dancer and I really miss a good hard core work out like that!

I do Orange Theory 4x/week in June, July and August (I'm a teacher with the summer off) and I loose about 5 inches in my waist, and arms are noticeably defined. I think if you're already thin you might notice a bit more strength, toned but not significant. I'd ramp it up for 2 months before the wedding.

I did OTF for about six months within the last year. I was paying $159/month and loved it. The reason I stopped was because I travel frequently for work and the club where I was traveling to mostly was considered one of their premium locations so I had to pay an additional fee per visit. I wasn't going to do that when I typically have access to a gym where I'm working or hotel for free. I do love the Bluetooth heart rate monitor that you purchase with your membership and still use it.

OTF is great if you have motivation to keep the weight off and continue the life style after the classes are up.

I love orange theory! Right now I just have time for one class a week and add in maybe two extra classes a month. (Total of 6 a month) I'm not someone who can work out by myself! I have no idea what to do. The trainers are awesome! I have definitely noticed a difference in my fitness and my BM have said my arms look more defined. You can push yourself or just maintain. They help set monthly goals too. I'll probably do more when my wedding date gets closer but I would definitely recommend it to just stay in shape too

I like it a lot. I think it is reasonably priced compared to a personal trainer, but it is more expensive than a regular gym membership.

The cost keeps me accountable. I continue to go because I don't want to waste my money. There is an 8 hour cancellation policy so if I schedule a class, I always go so I don't pay an extra fee.

My fitness level has increased, because I go consistently and I don't make excuses and stay home.

The workouts are hard and they are guided, but it is up to you to decide how much effort you put into each workout.

I've been going since April, and really enjoy it. It's helped me lose weight without losing muscle mass. It also helps me deal with anxiety because of its high intensity. I love the live feedback you get from the heart rate monitors, it is very motivating to work harder during a workout!

It doesn't matter the cost. If you like it and you can afford it and you'll use it regularly them its worth the cost.

If you won't use it then it's not worth it.

I had a membership a couple years ago and religiously went 6-7 days a week for about four months. It was a great workout and I lost about 15 pounds. After about four months of this though I fell into a rut and neglected my membership for about two months (still paying $130 per month for unlimited classes, stupid me). The class became extremely repetitive to me and I got very bored. I ended up canceling my membership and going to a regular gym instead.

For me personally, I like the freedom of a regular gym that also has a variety of group exercise classes. I need to have different options available or I'll get bored of doing the same thing all the time.

I also just think it's very expensive. The thought of paying over $100 a month just to get two classes a week of OTF sounds ridiculous to me now. That's what I currently pay at my gym that has unlimited classes, an indoor track, racquetball and tennis courts, a pool, weight rooms, a spin room, cardio rooms, etc.

OTF can be great if you're content with running and doing light weight exercises for an hour max, or if you really need the push from the trainers to workout and don't want to do personal training. Otherwise, I think it's kind of a waste of money. But that's just me.

ETA: OP - if you're looking to cut and tone up, and you're already fit to begin with, I highly doubt twice a week (or eight times a month) is going to do much for you two months before your wedding. I used to fitness/bikini competitions and in order to really trim off fat when you're already fit and thin is to ramp up your weight training and cardio and really stick to good nutrition. If you're set on OTF, I'd go a minimum of four times a week, maybe more if you can swing it. If you only want to do two days, then you need do extra cardio/strength training 2-3 days a week extra to supplement.

I love OTF. I have the unlimited membership which is $160/month in my area and I go 3-4 times/week. Since starting in February I've lost 23 lbs and 2 pant sizes. I have been counting calories and changed up my diet quite a bit (you can't outrun a bad diet!).

I love it. I don't work out on my own and the led classes keep me engaged and going. Try the free class and if they offer a second at a discounted rate take that one as well. I cannot say enough good things!

My local gym has waaaay better classes for cheaper. I was angry when I went and it was $25 a class for half of the time running on a treadmill. I also rowed through high school and college and none of those instructors are trained to teach proper rowing technique (I have the same issue with crossfit too.) If you row improperly by opening your back too soon before fully extending your legs, you risk herniated and bulging discs in your back over time. I learned this the hard way by going to a rowing camp in high school and finding out that's why half of our seniors couldn't erg anymore due to back issues. Our coach wasn't teaching proper technique.

My fiancé is a personal trainer and is currently treating a client who injured herself from taking Orange Theory classes to lose weight for her wedding (he focuses on pain management.) I take HIIT classes at my local gym, and I finished the orange theory workout before the class time was up. I just wasn't impressed, and there's a lot of room for injury.

I have a friend that is a coach with Orange Theory! Although there is not an Orange Theory near where I live, I understand that the classes are highly interactive, and that the coaches can monitor each participant and their progress individually during the class, so you have more true training time despite the fact that you are part of a class. It is great for social exercisers! The biggest drawback is that all of the classes are scheduled and can be expensive. It's not the type of gym where you can just drop in, hit a couple machines, then head home. Overall, I've heard it's a fun environment that offers great results, but you have to be dedicated to truly get your money's worth. Best of luck!

I used to do 2 classes a week and probably did that for a year. I got great results and really enjoyed going! I ended up quitting only because the location got too busy and it became increasingly hard to find open spots in the classes. I do totally recommend it. Keep in mind there can be like 30 people in one class so if you are looking for 1 on 1 help this isn't your place to go.
