Orange Theory - weight loss and toning

Michelle, on October 29, 2011 at 9:41 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 10

So today I signed up at our local Orange Theory - Its a work out facility with a different take on working out. Anyway - I am not that over weight - mostly interested in the toning and firming up. I am hoping to take some B photos for my fh at some point.

Has anyone else gone there? What are you doing for weight loss and toning. Whats working and what didnt work?

I have always wanted the Wii fit and finally bought it. I love doing hula hoop - can definitely feel it in the hps and thighs. I also added yoga, tennis, baseball and bowling (also on the Wii). Just started though so time will tell.

Have never hear of Orange Theory - will have to Google it. Good luck!

I started running last week. I know cardio is the best way to burn fat, so I started that. And I'm going to really work on my upper arms too. (see earlier post)

I also have tried pilates, which is hard, and a cardio workout at home.

I have the wii an wii fit - never thought about pulling it back out. Maybe I should.

Orange theory is a bit expensive but it's a smaller group with a personal trainer.

I love running but my knees will hate me if I start doing it too much. I ran a 5k this morning and placed number 11 for my age group and 135 overall.

I ran a half marathon in south beach in 2010 and have had to take it easy since then. I loveeeeeeeeeeee hot yoga and used to do it with my fh 5 days a week but my son (11) was playing tackle football and that was 5 nights a week Plus Saturday Smiley sad soo we have all been pretty inactive aside from my son.

I'm looking forward to being active!

Sarah- I have a friend who told me the same thing. It was still telling her that even after she was in a healthy weight range for her height. Sounds like it needs to be chucked!

I run and go to Boot Camp three nights a week. I'm going to sign up for a half that's at the end of January. I ran a 5K this morning (my third in three weeks). At this point I'm not pushing past three miles when I run at home. I'm hoping a training program for a half will really boost my mileage!

Boot Camp has been AMAZING for toning. I still have the belly to get rid of, but my arms and legs are way stronger than I ever imagined they would be. I've discovered/built my shoulder muscles and like how my arms are looking. We do tons of different types of push-ups and exercises with weights. Each class is different so it doesn't get boring. Boot Camp has also definitely toned my legs (which made me faster!).

Kacee, I just signed up for a boot camp in my town. I'm going to try once a week at first and see how I like it. If I want to do more, I'll go from there.

Kacee - check out the Galloway half training progrAm ... I followed it and ran a 2:30 half my first time. I should mention I never ran more than 3 miles in my life when I decided to run 13.1. Smiley smile

Just it home from my first orange theory class and I think my muscles are dying! Lol - super shaky and pushed to my limits

Yeow. At least you know something's happening. I hate working out and feeling like I didn't gain a thing.

As far as Wii is concerned, it's totally unnecessary for your little avatar to be a chubbers! I'm not one for exercising with trainers or buddies. I don't know your personal fitness goals but mine have always been to build muscle and lose fat. I do Jamie Eason's 12 Week LiveFit trainer. She focuses on 4 weeks of strictly building muscle (zero cardio, all lifting) and then 4 weeks of carving muscle with cardio and then 4 weeks of bringing it all in with HIIT. I like it because she doesn't sugar coat things and create false hopes with statements like, "you can totally put on 5 lbs of muscle and lose 5 lbs of fat at the same time!" It's completely free through bodybuilding.com and includes day by day training for all 120 days and a very reasonable diet plan. I'm working on week 6 so I'm just starting to lean out after adding muscle but I definitely like the results.
