Order of hair and makeup?

mrswinteriscoming, on October 28, 2021 at 7:37 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 3

On the day of the wedding, we will be picked up at 2:30pm for photos and thus are aiming to be finished with hair and makeup by 1:30pm so we can all be dressed and ready with enough time to spare.

Including myself there are 7 women and 2 girls to get ready and we will have 2 hairstylists and 2 make up artists. Hair will start at 8am and makeup at 8:30am to allow a slight buffer.

Between the women they will be having a mix of updos, waves/curls and blowdries - our hairstylists don't have a preference between the order of things so I thought I'd ask, for those of you who had a mix of styles, what order did your girls get ready in and would you change it/what did you like and not like about that order?

My MIL will be one of the first who needs to be ready since she will then be travelling back to my house (from my parents' place where we will get ready) to finish getting ready with FH. The only thing is, my dad will pick her up in the morning to bring her over for hair and makeup, but he will also have to bring over my SIL and her daughter (one flowergirl) who will stay on with us for the ceremony later, so I'm just trying to decide if we have them come first since my SIL's daughter will be one of the last to have her hair and makeup done since she is little!

Maybe check with your hair and makeup people what they suggest - I presume an updo would take more time than a non-updo style to complete, which might throw off the timing for makeup, although I was told to expect 1.5 hours for hair and 1 hour for makeup, so they'll never match up exactly anyway. I'm not even sure any of the weddings I've been a part of have had us go in the order we were scheduled for anyway, so I think as long as you're somewhere in the middle (so they're not rushing to do you at the end) it shouldn't matter too much!

My hairdresser didn't have a preference of who went when, but she did say that the schedules need to work so that there is no overlap. So for my schedule of 6 people for hair, 7 for makeup, Person 1 for makeup is 3rd for hair to give enough time to the hairdresser to finish and Person 1 for hair is 5th for makeup. The only person she said that is important is me, and that I should be in the middle so that I'm not going first but I'm also not going last and possibly getting rushed through. So I'm 3rd for makeup, 5th for hair. They allot for some time in between in case someone takes longer, so as long as you don't overlap, you should be fine with whatever order you do.

Check with your photographer. If you are working with your photographer on a shot list, then that list can guide you into who absolutely needs to be ready for photos at 2:30 pm (which will likely start late despite a buffer, because, weddings) and which shots can be pushed until later, if necessary. I had my hair and makeup done last so it was the freshest going into the photos.

While kids' styles are faster to do, it can be hard for them to stay photo-ready for a long time. I'd schedule them close to last because if necessary, one of the bridesmaids or a family member with styling tools and some ribbons or barrettes could do a nice style for them at the house.
