Just Said Yes March 2020

Ordered 6 bottles of wine, 3 cases of beer, and sig. cocktails. What if it isn't all drunk?

This is a hypothetical post! My venue requires we do the bar through them, but I'm worried about overpreparing. We have a fairly small wedding, and many of our friends don't drink or drink lightly, but it is a destination wedding, and on a weekend in Hawaii. I don't want to over-prepare, but I also worry about under preparing and having a guest complain wine or beer wasn't flowing.

If I say ordered 6 bottles of wine, and only 3 were drunk, would the venue give me those bottles to take home? What is the typical custom or etiquette on this?

You would have to inquire with the venue. In my experience, when we visited a winery they said they would buy back any unopened bottles. Also the liquor store my brother bought wine and beer from for his wedding also guaranteed the same. (The venue we booked is BYOB so I'll be going the wine/liquor store route.) But I think it'll really depend on the policy of the venue and can probably vary.

You need to ask your venue. Each state has strict laws regarding the sale of alcohol. Here in Ohio, once an alcoholic beverage of any kind is purchased it cannot be returned by law.

For my first wedding we hosted beer/wine. The hotel allowed us to supply bottles of wine (which we purchased at Costco). For us, anything that was unopened could be returned. We took home the extra bottles but ended up gradually finishing them off instead of returning.

Like others said we can return unopened alcohol where we live but you would need to ask where you live as well as check with the venue. I’m sure they would give it back to you since they didn’t buy it. How many people are you having? Six bottles of wine doesn’t go very far.

It really depends on the venue’s policy, ask them! I would hope that they’d let you return the bottles if they’re unopened

We were able to take home any alcohol that was not consumed. I would ask your venue about this. It will vary venue to venue.
