Ordered my dress a size smaller.

Astrid, on November 24, 2016 at 10:16 PM Posted in Fitness and Health 0 21

So I went and ordered my dress a size smaller cause I'm losing weight... Well trying, Smart deduction or no? I was thinking by the time it got here I should the weight lose to where it would fit. Any other brides ordered a size smaller?

Seeing as your wedding isn't until 2018, I think you should be fine as long as you're careful.

Your wedding date is quite a long time from now, I think it might be early to purchase a dress.

Also, it's a long time away, so lots could change in that time. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable purchasing a dress that isn't going to fit me now, and I wouldn't want to buy a dress so far out.

    Dress regret can be real.

You have plenty of time to lose the weigh you want!

You have plenty of time to lose the weight since your wedding is in 2018.

Honestly, I'm not a fan of buying dresses super far in advance. Styles change, meaning greater chance of dress regret.

Anyways, again, you have the time, which is a positive and a negative to your situation. A positive because you have plenty of time, but that time is also a negative. You could put off dieting until a later date or, alternatively, take on more cheat days because you have plenty of time.

Stick to a routine. Remember, it's much easier to take a dress in than to let it back out. Not saying you can never let a dress out because you can, but you can only let it out so much.

I think you have plenty of time but I wouldn't do it. Dresses are easier to take in than out and I just...wouldn't.

I don't understand the logic. If you have such a long time before your wedding, why didn't you wait to purchase a dress until you were closer the size you want to be??? This makes zero sense to me.

You do have enough time to lose the weight if you stay committed. However, I wouldn't do it. I'd buy my size and get it altered

I have to agree with @erin on this one. If your wedding is a year and a half away, why did you wait to order your dress until you've lost the weight to know better what size to order? i think being that far out, its risky to order a dress now and definitely risky to order a dress too small.

I have no issues with the ordering the dress early. I've had mine for a couple of years now, though it's primarily because we've had to push back the date, and I'm thankful, because I really dislike all the lace and sleeved/strapped dresses/illusion dresses everywhere now. It also makes my dress stand out because it isn't the current "trend" anymore.

That said, ordering down a size is never a smart move. I would call and see if they can change it. You never know what can happen.

I ordered a size down because I found a good deal on a sample sale dress and I regret it.

I'm not sure why you would order it small when it can be altered down to fit. I think ordering small is very very risky.

I get that you're looking at it as a way to stay accountable on eating habits and exercise, but I think it's a risky decision.

Hi Gorgeous, your wedding isn't until 2018 so it's an achievable goal but I wouldn't do it. As cliche as it sounds life should be as simple and sexy as possible. Ordering a dress that is a size too small is a bit of negative reinforcement and may stress you out. Is it too late to put the dress on hold until later? I believe in your ability to lose the weight-but even then you might be surprised at your new body shape and prefer a different cut or style of dress.

I ordered my current size because I had no intention of losing weight...

Now I've lost 7lbs and am still going with a goal of closer to 30...hoping they can alter my dress to fit me closer to the date!

Even so, I would not order a dress that wouldn't fit me today. I wouldn't like the pressure of HAVING to lose weight in order for it to fit!

I ordered a size smaller. I am currently losing weight consistently, so it was a no brainer for me.

I would wait in buying the dress. They can only take so much off and extend. So wait.

Bad decision. Things can be made smaller, typically not bigger. On the off chance you don't lose the weight, or it doesn't come off where you need or want it to, you are up a creek without a paddle.

I am optimistic about this one. I think that if you are already on track to lose weight, and you know what you need to do, ordering your dress one size smaller will save you money in the long run because you won't need to have it taken in as much. Obviously it's a risk, but I feel like PPs have already gone into that. If there's no changing the order and you're set on doing this, then use it to motivate you to do those early morning workouts and to eat kale. Good luck!

I disagree with previous posters. If you're on track to loose the weight and have your mind set to it, go ahead! I ordered mine a size smaller because I've lost the weight before and know I can do it. I had a little bit of a hiccup in my diet and exercise routine but am fully committed to getting back into it. Good luck! I know when you're trying to loose weight the last thing you want to hear is that it's not attainable.

Also! A good idea would be to try and get your designers measurements. I found mine so that I know exactly how many inches need to be lost in each area so that I know if I'm loosing too much or too little..
