ordering invitations via internet vs. store

sandyanddaniel, on January 18, 2010 at 11:09 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 19

So I've been through I think all the wedding invitation sites online and have received a lot of free samples. I've also gone to 3 different stores and taken hours on end looking for the right invitation. The ones that I've found in the store, that I have loved costs over $10 an invitation and I think that is ridiculous to spend, but I also want it to be nice. What kind of experiences have you had and will you be ordering online or in store?

I ordered mine online and I just adore them! There is a pic in my profile! I added the ribbon afterwards!

I ordered my save the date cards on vistaprint and they came with free envelopes. They turned out perfect, and I got to customize/create them myself. (See my inspiration board on my profile if you wanna see what they look like.) I got 50 of them for $30. I'll probably be doing my invites the same way.

I had the same problem for a while. I had tons of samples and the ones I loved were either too expensive or square shaped and would cost more to mail in the long run. I finally found ones I liked on Rexcraft.com and am currently waiting for them to arrive.

Yes i ordered online. i had a good experience but it wasn't dirt cheap...it could be a great way to save money if you're picky and don't have a huge a budget...

if i was less picky, i would have just picked a do it yourself kit from michaels or target or just pockets and printed most inserts myself.

I ordered mine online and they came in last week. They turned out perfect. I was a little nervous about it because they didn't show you a proof of every step so I called the help line and told them my concerns and they assured me that they would make them look great and they would know what I was aiming to do. And sure enough they turned our wonderful. I used www.rexcraft.com.

I am using www.moderngirlinvitations.com. I like their designs, and they are SO nice to work with. They are also doing programs and menus to match my invites.

I ordered at etsy.com. It was nice to work with a real person, and her prices were great! The invites were about $5.50 a piece, plus I paid a little extra to have the envelopes lined.

    Sandy,

We also see invitations online and give a 25% discount off the suggested retail pricing. It will show you the full price up front, but will give you the discounted price after you add it to your shopping cart. Also, we are "real people", so we are help to help you through the process if you need it!

On another note, sounds like from what you like in stores, you make need to search for "letterpress" -- it's beautiful, but EXPENSIVE because of the process used. Best of luck to you!

I'm designing them myself and taking them to a printer. $50 for 50 card stock, color, double-sided print cards with envelopes!

I suggest to my brides to choose their wedding invitations and then search online for the best price.

I've sold Carlson Craft and Birchcraft for many years, both excellent quality products. Instead of giving a % discount, I offer free digital calligraphy for the envelopes and placecards.

You should do what works best for you.

Ordering online is risky but if you want to save money it is a good option. Getting the samples was a great idea. If you still have time keep checking other options and getting more samples until you find something you like. Just make sure that the quality of the sample invitations is the same as the ones you will get before you order. You can never be too safe. Whether you buy online or buy the invitation in a store the main thing is that you find something you really like and once you have that go for it! Good Luck!

Sandy- whatever you choose to do have fun and get something you love- I understand all of the online discounts are enticing but there is something to say about sitting down with a professional, and actually touching and seeing the invitation in person with receiving advice on fonts and wording- I have worked with many clients who just did not know the proper wording for etiquette and really needed that guidance- have Fun and enjoy the process

I got invitations online from invitation consultants a few years ago for my grandmother's birthday party, and they came out great. So I'm going to use them again for the wedding. Don't know how they compare pricewise, but I'll go with a vendor I've worked with before.
