Out of county wedding

Karen, on May 15, 2019 at 12:45 PM Posted in North Carolina Planning 0 3
I'm planning a wedding in a different county than the one I live in. Do I have to follow the rules of the county I live in for a marriage license or the one I'm getting married in? I'm so confused.

I did research on this too because we are getting married in a different county than which we live. What I read on our local county website states that once you obtain your license you can get married anywhere within NC. I would do a quick online search on the register of deeds or clerk of courts for the county you live and the county you are getting married in, just to be safe.

    Hey Karen,

I'm not an attorney so this does not constitute legal advice Smiley winking . Like Meghan said, I believe that in NC, you can get your marriage license in any county and it is good for a marriage performed anywhere within the state. The Wake County ROD website is pretty straightforward on the issue, but confirm with your local county or where you plan to get married as well.
