Out-of-season Wedding Colors

Kari, on April 4, 2020 at 5:25 PM Posted in Style and Décor 1 15

We will likely have to cancel, postpone, or dramatically alter our wedding due to Covid-19 and our main color is a dusty pink/coral, which I think will look very out of place for a non-spring wedding. The wedding party members already have their attire, including floral ties for the men. We are not ordering new ties and dresses. Fortunately the men are wearing navy suits and not a lighter color.

In the event we choose to push our date back to later this year, is there anything we can do to make our colors not look so out of place?

Honestly, I don’t think people notice or care. My wedding is in October, but we are having spring color (lilac and green). I didn’t care it’s not a fall color.

I think that’ll be fine! I went to a late September wedding last year with that exact color scheme and it looked fine

Yea I suppose with how many compromises we are needing to make and how fast everything is changing, the colors should be the least of my concerns. I'm not even sure that postponing is a viable option for us anyway, but I've been stressing a lot and thinking of all the things that will "be wrong" if we aren't able to have the wedding we planned on the day we planned for. It sucks to put so much time, energy, and money into something that just seems like a total mess now anyway. Oh well! In the end I just hope our day is special whatever it ends up being.

I wouldn’t worry about it. Seasonal colors aren’t something people worry about as much now. If you love the colors it’s good anytime. Enjoy the important things like marrying your best friend and having family with you.

I agree with PP, I think your colors will look great at a wedding even if it's not spring. And I think they're colors that will be available in flowers any time of the year. I'm sure you picked those colors for a good reason. I don't think you should worry about the "season colors" at all. Go with what you like - then you'll enjoy the day and your memories of it better

I agree I think that’s fine! I don’t personally believe colors need to coincide with season

People need not dress or furnish rooms in seasonal colors. But often, choosing a darker complimentary or coordinating color to your gowns for background and decorations gives a nod to the season, while providing great contrast that shows off your gowns. Dusty coral rose makes me think a few shades, some more pink, some a touch more orangish.
If you choose a fall dateOut-of-season Wedding Colors 1
there are lots of table cloth and flower colors like the deep russet, and wine shades of these fall mum's. One more a complement to slightly orange corals, in front, the back one a wine color for pinkish tones. And as you move toward winter, depending on the shade blue of the guys ( do not match it) there are darker dusty blues and slate or bluish grays that are excellent with your colors. Usually what ends up looking out of place in the fall with pink dresses chosen for spring, is if you have pictures and go outside, and don't have some kind or shawl or wrap. Or have a see through colored ( not white-white) chiffon or lace dressy jacket , that acts like an overlay, showing off the dress below clearly, but not looking strange as very bare arm and shoulders type gowns do outside in fall or winter.
But don't change your basic gown colors, no need at all. Getting into late Nov and Dec, Jan, there are some spectacular Amaryllis colors, where just one bulb of 4 blossoms makes a great centerpiece addition. It is as seasonal as the pointsettia, but does not say Christmas. It is an exotic winter wonderland or ball type decoration, and various coral and deep pink stripings and throats make them , like orchids, good choices for your colors. So do some Siberian or Japanese Iris, in the deep pinks and blues, not at all what we think of as garden Iris color ( purple). Also for fall and winter tables, think of layers. Summer elegant is very light and sheer. Fall and winter, layered overlays, or velvety looking tablecloth toppers, mats under centerpiece groupings, things like that bring your colors in varying darker shades into the room nicely.

Honestly, people can fight me if my colors are out of place in August. I was supposed to get married today and instead am waiting several more months for our big ceremony. Lol I say do you and just enjoy your colors.

We're having a late summer/early fall wedding and we have a lot of pinks/corals/"spring" colors. I don't really feel it matters. I don't really believe that a color can only be part of a certain season. We picked our colors based on colors we like...not the time of year.

I don't think anyone will think your colors are out of place at all, but if you are unhappy with the look maybe you could add a dark accent color, like a burgundy pashmina, or dark red or purple flowers.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through the stress of possibly postponing.

We're almost color twins! I am planning on having coral/pink/peach colors with gold and teal accents. Originally our wedding was going to be in April and moved to September. I honestly haven't thought twice about our colors being 'out of season'. If the colors make you happy and are your style, don't over think it! Chrysanthemums and Dahlia are usually beautiful hues of pink and are fall flowers. Just because we think of pumpkins and leaves in the fall it doesn't mean everything has to be those colors.

It’s one of those things that probably no one will dwell on except for you. No ones going to complain that your colors aren’t seasonally appropriate. If you wanted to put the effort in, you could try pairing the attire with other darker colors. Like coral and mustard together. But I’m sure it’d look nice regardless. Coral could be a breath of fresh air during a dreary winter.
