Out of state wedding + wedding planner?

Definitely California. There are so many ways to still talk with a planner while not in person, like zoom, calls or emails

I would say find one in CA. There are so many virtual ways of meeting these days that an in person meeting isn't totally necessary. You could always meet up with them in CA when going to see venues or whatever other reason you'll be in the area.

My friends are eloping in Hawaii, and they just have a planner based in Hawaii since they know the ins and outs of that area!

I'm usually not a fan of wedding planners because I can't justify spending that much money for someone to do a job that I can pretty much do myself. That being said, for a destination wedding I think it's necessary. I'd get a planner in California who will know the best vendors and venues in that area, and can recommend ones that will fit your wedding the best! You can always video chat with them if you prefer that 'in person' feeling better than over the phone!

Makes sense. I just know myself and I'll get decision paralysis if I try to plan it on my own. Plus, I've got a demanding job and an infant at home so I'm all about outsourcing work to people who are professionals at a thing!

Oh I completely agree with you! If we were having a destination wedding, hands down I would be getting a planner!

Find one local to where the wedding takes place. Also be aware that a venue coordinator is not the same as a day of coordinator. A venue coordinator only cares about making sure you and your vendors follow venue rules and regulations. They will not do the duties of day of coordinator such as making sure your day runs smoothly, any setup/teardown, etc.

Also schedule a trip when possible to meet vendors and do tastings, etc. You can take suggestions but the decision should be yours since their personal tastes are not yours.

California, for sure. They will be able to go to different venues, meeting with vendors, etc. for you since you are not close by.

I’d hire one in California- they know the area. Not meeting in person has an easy fix- zoom or FaceTime your meetings.
