Outdoor air conditioning

Anna , on December 20, 2017 at 11:40 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 17
I have my heart set on a venue that is all outdoors. (There is a covered pavilion in case of rain). It would be early June in Texas and I’m SO concerned about heat. I’ve seen outdoor conditioning for tents but would it also work for open areas? If so, are there affordable options?

I think the outdoor air-conditioned tents need to have the "flaps" down. I don't think you can have them "open" and still be effective. Would that still be what you'd be interested in?

Air conditioning doesn't work in open spaces. Haven't you ever had the air conditioning running with the windows open? It's not very effective.

Air conditioner defeats the point of being outside.

I really don't think outdoor air conditioning is very effective. Even with tents the cool air just escapes unless it is enclosed

More like being outside defeats the purpose of air conditioning.

You should never have an outdoor wedding in June. Even with air conditioning, this is going to be hot and uncomfortable and maybe even dangerous for your guests. It's rude.

To clarify: I understand that it won’t make the entire area cool, but was wondering more if it could be set up so it could make some areas a place to cool off.

I'm getting married in New Orleans in July(!) and my venue has a lovely courtyard which I would like my guests to be able to use if they like even if we don't have our ceremony there. I have been looking into misting fans, which work quite well and don't get people wet. I've experienced these in open areas quite a bit, and they are commonly used on outdoor patios or events where there are open cooling tents. The places I have looked at rent them at about $125 or so each. How many you would need of course depends on the space you need to use them. There are also larger machines, but i haven't looked into those. Have you asked the venue what other people have done? That being said, I do have an indoor venue and personally wouldn't want people forced outside that whole time, even with the fans. I hate the heat, so I want AC.

I actually found a venue that was soooo gorgeous. It was like the enchanted forest, but it was ALL outside. I decided our guests comfort is more important than the scenery.

It’s way too hot in June to have an outside wedding. There’s no way an outside a/c would keep guests cool or comfortable. I’d politely decline or leave after the ceremony.

Hi, so A/C only works in an enclosed area. You can burn out the condenser if you allow too much outside humidity and heat. The whole point of A/C is to cool to a consistent temperature and then maintain that temperature.

As a fellow Texan I would have to say that outdoors in June is not going to be comfortable. The outdoor conditioning units would have to be enclosed in a tent to work. I actually did not book with a venue that had everything I was looking for because they had no indoor option at all, and my wedding was in October, but with Texas weather you never know. It could be 105 in June, and you would definitely not want people stuck outdoors in that heat with no respite.

I live in Texas... I honestly would decline an outdoor wedding in June. Do you currently live in Texas? Have you experienced Texas heat? It's terrible! 🙄

The most terrible weddings people attend are usually those in which the bride and groom were more concerned with their vision than their guests' comfort. Do you really want your guests to look back on your wedding and remember the hellish heat more than anything else?

Your wedding shouldn't need an area for people to 'cool off', the entire thing should be a comfortable temperature.

    Guests trump vision.

My wrinkly old self would faint in my formal wear! You must move the wedding to a more comfortable space.

I work for a tent company and when we do AC you need to have walls on the tent (or pavilion in your case). It depends on your location but AC can also be very expensive.

Ask the venue if they have had any clients' with the same concern before and how they dealt with it. Mine will be outside in August and it's going to be a quick ceremony with fans to mildly help LOL

Wowzer outdoors Texas in June might not be a great move. Sorry to be the the Debby downer, I know that the flaps need to be down on a tent it has to be fully enclosed for the a/c to be effective. and then that defeats the purpose of having and outdoor wedding. unless you just want the view or the scenery. Some people like myself might not come due to asthma and other health concerns if we knew it was an outdoors wedding in Texas summer heat.

As a future bride I understand your dreams and want for your wedding so the final decision is yours just giving you my 2 cents. I wish you the best and please keep us updated on what you decide and how it works out for you. Stay safe and enjoy planning.
