Outdoor Ceremony: Arbor or no arbor?

Amberly, on January 28, 2020 at 2:39 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 9

Originally when we were looking for a venue, my one wish was to have a large tree to get married under. The one we booked not only has the tree, but also amazing views with a mountain backdrop.

We recently went to a few different florists for pricing and have narrowed it down to 2. Our options are to be married under the tree with no arbor or decoration OR be married near the tree, with the mountain in the background of a circular arch (I guess it's called a moon gate?).

We are feeling torn. On the one hand we still love the tree, and that was the original reason for the venue. My concerns with the tree are, we're getting married in October - what if it looks more naked than it already does in the picture (taken at a wedding there last October)? On the other hand, the arbor is really pretty, idk if we would center it near the tree or in front of it without it looking weird, but there is an amazing mountain backdrop (which you can kind of see in the tree pic) which we could center it on.

TLDR: To tree or not to tree? Should we do an arbor or be married under the tree?

Side note: We're not interested in doing drapery on the tree - it's just not my style.

When i first started reading I was going to vote for the tree since it's October and would look gorgeous however it does look sparse in the photos. Are you at the beginning or end of October? That can make a huge difference in foliage.

We're getting married the second to last weekend in October. I thought it looked sparse too and there are certainly no guarantees on the weather or the seasons. It's a wild card.

I think both are very pretty options, but because you aren't getting married until late October a lot of the leaves mgiht be gone. How soon do you need to make a decision?

I think October cold be iffy with how many leaves are on the tree and the arbor with the mountain will be beautiful!

Only one of the florists can do the arbor as it's a specific kind of arbor they own. So we have to make the decision on the florist relatively soon.

Makes sense. Would that be the only reason you would go with that particular florist?

She offers a little more bang for her buck. Her prices were a little bit cheaper, but we can also go back to the first florist and ask to make adjustments to be more aligned with our budget.

Both are excellent florists recommended by the venue with similar styles.

Since she is cheaper and has similar style and the arch you might want you use then I would go with her. This way you can decide as it gets closer whether you want to use the arch. If you didn't go with her then you could probably find somewhere online to buy or rent an arch from should you decided later on that's what you want to do.

My florist talked ne out of an arch because it would be $1500 and cannot be moved. You could do floral on pedestals and move the arrangement. He made sense. Why waste the money for less than 30 minutes?
