Sierra, on October 8, 2014 at 4:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

I recently reserved a tent in case it rains, but I never planned on a big thunderstorm and winds. Anyone have any advice or words to calm me down? :'[ I have been cool, calm and collected but this really has be freaking out

Take a deep breathe. Weather changes all the time so tomorrow the report may be 80 and sunny. You just never know. And if it does rain, it rains. You'll still be married to the love of your life and that is the important thing. Also, you have the chance to get some fabulous pictures: http://www.buzzfeed.com/melissaharrison/beautiful-rainy-day-weddings#2ywwxx2

    Everything Andrea said.

Does the tent have sides? That could really be helpful if it's supposed to be windy. Personally, I'd advise you to spend extra money to make sure there are sides. Wind whipped hair isn't fun.

    What Andrea said.

It flooded the whole two weeks before my wedding. Weather for the rehearsal and wedding day were perfect. Don't worry too much about it. Especially since it's something you can't control.

Tent has sides, praise the Lord lol. Although I've heard of sides not mattering if its bad winds...it will still pick it up and carry it in some situations :'( Thats just the negative nancy coming out in me lol...that'd never happen, right?...right? :p

But yes, thank you girls. You make a good point that we will still be married and thats all that really matters. I just hate the thought of going through all of this and planning the wedding of my dreams to not even be able to thoroughly enjoy it Smiley sad

Is the whole wedding outside? If not...I know its not ideal but you could arrange to have the ceremony inside. A friend did that at her wedding...we all sat at the tables we were going to be sitting at during the reception...they moved all her outdoor decor in and made and altar on the dance floor. It was still beautiful. But if your entire wedding is outdoors...just take a deep breathe...it will still be beautiful and what Andrea said...you will still be married to your love.

I went to a ceremony last month in a STORM. Bad. Windy, tent was fine, sides were rippling. Are you doing a first look? They were glad they did because they had an outdoor ceremony (moved into the tent/reception area) and wouldn't have gotten many otherwise!

We were planning on having the ceremony outside and the reception under the tent, and I am ok with doing the ceremony under the tent too.

I thought about the last resort- moving the ceremony into our house...but 80 people in our living room wouldn't work very well, I'm afraid Smiley sad

We will just wing it and hope for the best Smiley smile Nothing else we can do right?!

Oh P.S...the rain is also following us on our honeymoon lol

The ceremony inside the tent was lovely. They did it on the dance floor in the middle. Use a microphone, the rain made it hard to hear some parts

When I booked my outdoor venue I made sure they had a tent with sides just in case it was cold or it rained. If you reserve a tent, you need to make sure it does have sides because if you get driving wind, your guests will be soaked.

Yes the tent we booked does come with sides. Unfortunately, we are getting bits and pieces of the tropical storm on the WC, so we are moving the wedding AND reception inside our garage (which is bigger than most houses, thankfully lol). Not exactly what I wanted, but this weather is not gonna be letting up until some time next week. Now I'm having to re-plan a whole wedding and reception in two days. Oh well :'(

Sierra, that sucks. Have you tried looking at the hourly forecast yet, or is it to soon. Mine is on Sunday and it is to soon for me. My rain chances have been up and down all week. 80%, to 50%, then down to 30%, back up to 50% and today is 20%. I do have a backup plan at my venue, THANKFULLY. But I would really like to know if I am going to go as planned outside or have to move inside. Hopefully the rain will slow or stop for your wedding.

I woke up on my wedding day and there were thunderstorms in the forecast. I started to worry. My mom told me not to, that I will have a lovely wedding day and for to pray. I stopped worrying because really there isn't anything I can do about that and I did have a lovely day. It drizzled rain for about 40 mins while we were in the church, then it stopped. I was so happy with the weather. A year ago I was worried that it would be way too hot. Just have a backup plan which it seems like you have and enjoy your day. Smiley smile

Hey, the garage may not be ideal, but everyone will be safe and dry! If you remain cool and laugh it off, the guests are going to have a great time....and they will never forget your wedding! You can do some pretty cool things with fabric or streamers to make it more beautiful and less garage-like. And in such an enclosed space, twinkle lights can make a huge statement!

Make sure you have matching or color coordinated umbrellas for you and everyone you want in your portraits. If the wind isn't disastrous, you can get some great rain photos! Oh, and maybe matching rain boots!

I bet you can make the garage beautiful! Maybe lots of globe lights or something for some atmospheric lighting?

Shoshana and KayRay- Yes! We are planning on making it as beautiful and unique as possible on this short of notice haha. The plus is we already had a TON of globe lights, planning to use them in the tent, so thats a great idea Smiley smile

It snowed. Record breaking, local state of emergency SNOW the whole week before my summer wedding. It was forecast for my wedding! Then that changed to rain and freeeezing temps the day of the wedding.

It rained a lot the day before. There was snow everywhere.

The morning of, someone decided not to be a bitch anymore (mother nature) and while we did have to knock the snow off the gazebo, the temp shot up to double what the high was forecasted to be, and we all got a sunburn instead of hypothermia.

Don't panic til you have a real reason to panic! Things could be completely different by Saturday!

Focus on the purpose of the wedding-- getting married. And also, just keep telling yourself, "This will be a great story to tell the kids and grandkids!"

This is years past, but for the OTHERS.

My daughter and her groom could not get into the courthouse that they chose as their place to get married. it was lighting and thunder, the rain was defeating. the court officiate was inside and saw that we were not going to get in and so he came out into the storm with us today.

traffic picked up and people were blowing their horns, the windows to the courthouse offices were open for the breeze and they gathered to watch, the thunder was deafening and lighting struck near by, the officiate started speaking and that was all we heard. when he was done and the bride and groom kissed the thunder and lighting was gone, horn would blow, and people rolled down their windows to yell congratulations. we not rich and do I wish I could give her more, heck yea, I am ashamed of myself, some times. but I never seen a more beautiful and happy bride.

the whole way there my wife of 34 years kept saying I hope it does not rain, I kept telling here I don't mind, the corn and other crops that feed so many need it. I was all round happy about it.

What does it mean if it Thunderstorms on your wedding day?

Rain on a wedding day means good luck! You might have thought it was a sign of a bad luck, but it's actually quite the opposite! "In some cultures, rain on your wedding day is considered good luck, symbolizing fertility and cleansing.I feel they were blessed to have should a great day to get married on. it just water people, its just water.
