OUTDOOR WEDDING - DANCE FLOOR A MUST?

Rachael, on August 22, 2015 at 9:49 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 12

This is a question for those of you who have had an outdoor DIY wedding that DID NOT rent a dance floor. We are having our wedding a relative's home who does not want us to have a dance floor but I am not comfortable having our guests dance on the grass for fear of people not dancing, etc. Was it is disaster not having a dance floor? Anyone been to a wedding that did not have a dance floor and it was just fine? Thanks for your input!

Following! We're also getting married at a relatives property and are considering no dance floor

You need one. For starters, it defines the space. And no, most people will not dance on grass, especially women in heels.

Yeah, I think you need one. The ground is uneven. People could get hurt stepping in a small divot or hole or trip on something. And they'd most likely be able to then get you for any medical bills.

We didn't have one, didn't anticipate anyone dancing, and our guests danced on the grass outside the tent!

Your relative is probably (rightfully) worried about the dance floor damaging the lawn.

I can see where they might be worried about their garden, but I doubt many people would want to dance without one. I would be afraid of hurting myself, personally. Plus, you then have to be worried not only about rain on the day of but for like several days before. If it has rained recently the ground will be wet and no one will want to walk on it (plus dancing on wet grass could possibly hurt it more than the dance floor would).

We are not doing one only because my FH's mother's home has an incredibly large deck to dance on and it really wasn't in the budget to squeeze out a dance floor if we didn't need one. However, if they did not have the deck it would have been a totally different story. If it is too costly, I have seen some phenomenal tutorials on people who have built a dance floor with the help of their crafty friends. Smiley smile

If it is about the lawn, I wonder if there would be a safe way to compromise with them? I mean, you definitely don't want to have divots and holes in the ground for someone to trip on but I get it if they're worried about their lawn too. Some rental companies are very rough installing the floor so perhaps that's part of their worry? Either way, good luck! Smiley smile

My SIL had a backyard wedding and she made a dance floor out if wood squares. I don't think 4-6 hours of wood sheets in grass would ruin a lawn. Maybe have the rental people discuss that with your relitives to put their mind at ease. With all this florida rain the lane will still grow like crazy Smiley smile

I have a hunch that six hours of floor would be less destructive than six hours of shoes, lol.

We're not having a dance floor, but then we do have a large patio in the back yard which is where the dancing will be. I have to say that I kinda agree with others dancing on grass is hard unless you go bare foot
