Outdoor wedding in Austin first weekend of June??

Paneelark, on October 30, 2018 at 2:27 PM Posted in Texas Planning 0 13

Would it be very miserable for an outdoor wedding in Hill Country (Austin Texas?). I've read how brutal it is.. but what if it was at the beginning of June? Anyone been to a wedding during this time? Trying to find a venue ASAP but really want an outdoor wedding. Thank you!!

I’m from Texas and I wouldn’t plan an outdoor wedding at all from May-September there.

I don't know about Texas specifically, but I think that at the beginning of June it's already getting pretty hot down there. I had an outdoor ceremony in July in New Orleans, which I'm sure no one would recommend if they just heard that. It was in the mid-80s and humid. The ceremony was in the early evening in a shaded courtyard and everyone seemed comfortable. I hate the heat and I was comfortable. We had the reception entirely indoors. I did however, have an indoor backup plan in case I felt that it was too hot to be outside or it rained or whatever.

Your guests comfort should be your priority - your own, too - wedding dresses can be really hot and heavy. If temps dip in the early evening, I would suggest having a ceremony then. You could also provide tents/fans. But really, I'd plan to have an indoor plan B (which you should have anyway).

Yea I was thinking evening ceremony like around 6-7 pm... I don't know what the temps at night would be like for an outdoor reception though.. Assume not cool enough?

Did you have tents? I was think early evening ceremony like 6-7pm.. I'm not sure of outdoor reception would be fine or not.. I think it would be pushing it.. Def don't want to feel sweaty or have people complaining of the heat! Smiley sad

I did not have tents, partially because the ceremony area (courtyard) was really well shaded at that time of day and if it had rained, we would have just moved inside. I did have misting fans, but the misters couldn't be used during the ceremony per the photographer's request, though we used the fans without them. I also gave all the guests hand fans.

I would not have had an outdoor reception, though. People had the option of enjoying the outdoor courtyard with the misting fans during the reception if they wanted to.

6 or 7pm it might cool down to mid to high 80s. I would not do outdoors in Texas unless it is March/April or October.

I just saw you got married in Carmel! Congrats! California was my first choice but then I started looking for elsewhere that was similar to west coast, hence hill country. But def not similar weather wise! How was that? Planning destination wedding? Did you have a wedding planner? Which venue?

I’ve lived in Monterey for the past 5 years so not a destination wedding. But I grew up in the Dallas area. I did have a wedding planner though and we got married at Folktale Winery in Carmel Valley!

Yes, outdoor wedding in June in Texas is pretty miserable.

Hopefully, you found an indoor ceremony/reception place by now...

I’m having the same problem. My wedding is in June 2020 but the heat is miserable here in Texas so finding a affordable indoor venue can be tough.

The heat is no joke in Austin in summer. I live about an hour away in San Antonio and most of the events I've been to during June or the other summer months are either pool parties or are indoors.
