Outdoor wedding planning nerves

Samantha, on December 6, 2021 at 3:25 AM Posted in Planning 0 3
Currently trying to decide on a venue within the coming days. The option that we like the most, and is also more affordable by at least 5k, is mainly outdoors with not the best back up option. This is definitely my #1 choice and would hate to pass on it over the unknown of weather. I live in SE Michigan and am planning for early July (? Trying to avoid rainy season) if anyone has tips!

As a fellow Michigander, I feel your pain. We are hoping to get married on the beach. But we are just realistic about having to be flexible when the time comes. Depending on your venue rules, you can look into clear tent rentals. Also, google images of rainy outdoor weddings. I think they are super romantic and pretty (silver lining type of thing). Id say if you love it, take the risk!

I agree with this! I'm also in Michigan, and our venue has an outdoor ceremony space. If it rains, we'll have to move it inside to where the reception is, which is completely not ideal. A clear tent rental would be a good backup plan (if your venue allows it)! I agree with Samantha that rain can make for some gorgeous wedding photos. Hopefully it won't rain on any of our wedding days though!

Can't speak to Michigan weather, but can speak to renting tents! Personally, I'd want to have a solid rain plan in place rather than crossing my fingers. Our original venue misled us about how much renting tents as a rain plan was going to cost, so I definitely recommend looking into the cost, how many days in advance you can cancel the order, and how much you'd get back if you decide to cancel it. The venue said it would only be a couple hundred dollars to reserve and we could cancel up to a few days in advance - I contacted the tent companies they used myself and found that was very much not the case (more like a couple thousand, only 50% back if we cancel, and would need to decide too far in advance for it to matter as a rain plan).
