Outdoor wedding with gravel path/how to protect lace train on gown??

erin, on June 27, 2015 at 10:13 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 4

I'm getting married outdoors in a garden in August. My aisle will most likely be a gravel path. I will have a lace dress with a chapel length train. How in the world can I protect my train from getting torn to pieces on the gravel? I've already ruled out an aisle runner, since my shoes will probably poke holes through it, or I'd trip on it. Any suggestions?

Personally, I'd be more concerned about heels on gravel than the dress. Would strongly advise looking into a solid runner (or at least a more heavy duty fabric one).

But if you're just concerned about the dress, definitely agree with S&C.

Those are both good points. I'm not one to wear high heels, so I was thinking of doing a medium height wedge heel for stability. The fabric layer under the train is a good idea! I had jokingly thought of putting plastic sheeting under there, but maybe another layer of sturdy fabric would suffice? I definitely don't want anything funky showing as I walk down the aisle.

Depending on how transparent the lace layer is, a second layer of whatever the lining fabric is may work. Or something non-woven like backing fabric? (I forget what it's actually called, it's ironed to the back of fabric to give it structure for appliqués and things. It usually ends up looking virtually see through.)

That might work. There is about 5 inches of lace that extends past the lining on the train. That's the part I'm most worried will snag on gravel.
