Outlandish registry items

Beatrice, on November 4, 2017 at 3:00 PM Posted in Registry 0 36

A friend of mine is getting married and posted her wedding registry on fb, her first mistake. On her registry she has video games, clothes, makeup, gift cards, and underwear. I've never seen a registry quite like this. What are some outlandish things you've seen on registries recently?

LOL I've never seen any registry like this, but I bet its not the only one. This looks like a Christmas list for my brother LOL

That is bizarre! I've never seen a registry with those types of items. The worst I've seen is an overly extravagant registry - friends of ours literally had nothing for less than $150 on theirs. It was a little much.

What seems outlandish to you might be a necessity to them.

Buying a gift off a registry is always optional.

Is it possible that she just added that stuff on there not expecting people to buy it, but so she could use the discount that most places give you for your registry???

I added random stuff to my Amazon one for that reason....though to be fair, I also didnt share it with anyone because I don't want to give anyone a registry at all, I just thought I'd take advantage of the discount after the wedding. Lol *edit* on second thought, maybe she shared the wrong list?! Lol

@dreamer if Hanes underwear and video games are a necessity to them maybe don't spring for a wedding and go to the courthouse?

I don't think it is weird to put video games on there if that is what you want, but underwear and makeup are too personal.

Squatty pottys are becoming much more common. Underwear and make up are weird, but I feel like video games are normal.

We had a cat tree on ours and I'm sure some people found that odd.

I happen to think video games aren't appropriate for a wedding registry, but fh has friends that would be more than happy to buy them for him if I ever let him do that. Others are right, you don't have to buy those items off the registry. But my idea of a registry is stuff you need to start your lives together. I don't think video games are a need. The rest of that stuff definitely isn't appropriate though.

Wedding on Halloween for a Halloween loving couple who had lived together for like 8 years already. Was only Halloween decor and weird childish things. Like skulls, bloody things and costumes and lamp that project cute shapes for children, whale shaped ladle, monkey shaped ice cubes, etc. It was SO entertaining to look at but pretty out there as far as what a normal registry has.

ETA also had a friend who asked for a tabletop statue fountain thing that peed your beverages out of his *ahem. Where do I find these people!? (But I'm still proud to call them friends)

I had a video game on my registry because it is something we do together... But I agree underwear is a bit out of the norm.

I wouldn't think anything is weird if it was something the couple planned to use together, so if both of them enjoy playing video games together, I would understand that, just like I'd understand if a couple who loves camping registered for a new tent, or a couple that enjoys playing board and card games registered for a few new games to add to their collection. However, clothing or makeup doesn't fit inside that rule of thumb. Those are gifts for an individual.

I'm not sure I've seen any registries where I thought any of the items were outlandish/overly expensive/odd for a wedding registry. What comes to mind as an unreasonable registry situation was when I received a shower invite that informed me the bride was registered at 4 different stores abd upon examining her registries, she had registered for three different everyday dinnerware sets, none of which were cheap, either. I could not figure out what she planned to do with 8-12 place settings of each pattern.

@melissaHH I considered that as well but they have dish-ware sets and kitchen supplies on there.

I'm sorry, underwear on a wedding registry is ridiculous, no matter how much of a "necessity" it is. So are clothes and makeup. That is not the intent of a wedding registry.

Honestly that may be a glitch. We registered at Target and occasionally random items would end up in there like a bag of socks, almond flour (im wildly allergic so we'd never register for this), and a mop.
