Over 1000 SOLA FLOWERS!!!

Tiffany, on November 23, 2015 at 9:50 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

Hey guys! This is my first post and I wanted to share my sola flower project with ya'll. After researching different ways to do flowers at a lower cost than fresh I stumbled across these sola flowers on save-on-crafts.com. I read a little bit about them on the diy forums and decided to take on the project... So I ordered 1,176 of them!! I ordered 4 different types including roses, zinnias, shells, and asters. I'm planning on using them for everything from bouquets and pomanders to my center pieces for 20+ tables. Last night I started the painting process by mixing one 2 oz bottle acrylic paint with a cup of water. I just swished each flower around in it until completely coated. The only issue I had was with the roses which would uncurl at the edges when wet. After painting them I just had to re-curl the edges a bit. So far I've done about half. FYI 1 bottle of paint coats about 45 flowers so buy more paint than you think! More pics to follow!

Please make additional posts with your progress! I loved watching Kim's bouquets come together, and now I'm planning on doing sola flowers too. I'm just waiting for my paints and flowers to arrive. I couldn't buy the craft paint (Martha Stewart) I wanted on Maui, so I have to hope the colors look as good in person as they did online. I definitely want to see your finished products.

They are artificial flowers made out of paper thin balsa wood and they look very realistic. They range anywhere from 25 cents to a dollar a piece so I was able to get over a thousand for just a few hundred dollars. Many of the varieties on save-on-crafts.com were sold out so I had to buy half of them on branches-wholesale.com. I haven't found any actual stores that sell them.

I saw this and immediately after saw Kim's post of her finished bouquets and I am OBSESSED. These are so gorgeous and I love the idea of being able to keep the bouquets, less waste, etc. I'm happy I can't do any wedding planning until the spring, because WW has totally converted me on a few things.

I decided to do Sola bouquets as well to save money and because I think they look pretty. I have seen some DIY that sprayed them instead of dipping them in paint (http://www.fancypantsweddings.com/sola-flower-wedding-bouquet-diy-tutorial/) and I really like that look too, so I still have to decide.

Please share your process Smiley smile I look forward to it!

Yay! So glad someone else took the plunge. I'm thinking of buying about 800 after a local magazine did a shoot at my venue and had a floral wall that I LOVE!

Thanks for sharing the extra details about the paint.
