Over or Under: Average Wedding Budget?

Maggie, on March 12, 2019 at 11:05 AM

Weddings cost a serious chunk of change, but couples still tend to underestimate how much they’ll spend on their wedding. Will you be over or under the average budget of $29,200? (Not including your engagement ring or honeymoon!) Is that more or less than you thought you’d spend on your wedding?...

It’s crazy to me how different areas with higher costs of living cost a drastically higher amount 😱 I would keel over (and my fiancé as well) if we had to spend that much on the wedding. We are going to end up at under $6,000 for the whole thing.

Same here Peggy! I naively thought I could plan a wedding in NYC for about $5,000. LOL EFF NO. After a while I realized my family and friend structure isn't set up to support that. I'm not a member of a church or any community organization so I couldn't just rent their hall and then have everyone chip in to help pay for food cook food, etc. Know what I mean?

We're probably going to be about $18,000 and that's with cutting corners a bit and in other areas not. It also includes us paying for some people like family or friends we want to be there. The venue itself wasn't that expensive at $1770 but the keeping people fed and watered is what makes me wince. We're spending about $9600 on that for 49 people including us the couple. Oh well, it'll be a lovely day and hopefully the cherry blossoms will be out and blooming then!

Oh yeah, and that doesn't include honeymoon for us either. We're moving to another country afterward and told my OH that I'd rather just take a honeymoon over there later in the year. That said, I kind of feel like slipping away for a couple days after the wedding just to breathe a bit.

Oh my God, I'd never imagine justifying $10k let alone $29k! That sounds absolutely ridiculous to me! We're clocking in at just under $6k right now, and even that makes me feel wasteful, lol.

I’m sure that we will be over. We initially thought it’d be around 20k, but once we did our homework and found out what things cost, we discovered that it’ll be more like 30-35k.

Way under I think we are spending 10,00 to 12,000. With minni moon , honeymoon and engagement ring we are still probably at 15,000

Much under. Ours is 7k. I could never imagine spending that much that amount is insane and really a waste of money.

We're going to be about 5k under that average (hopefully). Still have a few major vendors to finalize (florals, videographer), but I'm hoping to keep everything in the 25k zone. So far, so good!

I am so frugal with every expense! Managed to get a Saturday wedding and we’re coming in around 5k, FH’s parents are covering the 10 day honeymoon so I am overjoyed to have wedding, honeymoon, everything for about 5k. Woooo!
