Over skirt DIY or not...

Future Mrs. R Perez, on December 22, 2015 at 10:59 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

HI Everyone - I would like some opinions: It is much appreciated :-)

Like many others, I had a hard time deciding on a dress. Growing up I wanted a princess ballroom gown. When trying on dresses I loved the fit and flare as well. After much debating I purchased a fit and flare dress in August. Now I have come up with the idea that I can add a Tulle Overskirt for the ceremony and later stay in only the fit and flare - therefore having the best of both worlds (dresses). Has anyone ever added one to their fit and flare dress? I am attaching the Wedding dress picture (which doesn't come out as nice in pictures) and the picture of a tulle overskirt I would like to add - can I pull it off or not?

Are you thinking about making the skirt or buying one somewhere? There is another bride on here working on something very similar. If you can make it work I think it could be really nice. You get the second dress without actually having to change.

@KB- I plan on making it myself. The cost of the overskirts is more than my dress lol and it doesn't seem to expensive or difficult to make. I would have the help of a seamstress (my future MIL). Thanks for your input

@Tania - thanks. I did order samples of 8 tulles I found in fabrics.com in whites and ivory to try to match it as much as possible and I also would like the tulle to be soft and flowy and not so stiff.

I don't know if this is as fluffy as you want, but Azazie has some skirts! http://www.azazie.com/products/azazie-margot-separate?color=ivory

Anyone who can sew well could do this in a heartbeat. I'm no pro but I'm pretty good and I wouldn't have any problem. Personally, I think this is a fun idea and I'm not even normally a fan of two dresses.

The other bride doing a diy over skirt I think is planning on a shorter dress.. I'd be concerned with a fit and flare and then several layers of tulle over it and it being to hot and generally just too much dress. But there are plenty of easy tutorials for tulle skirts (shorter ones) but could easily be modded for a longer over skirt.

@Roweira - thanks. the link is helpful, I didn't know that website. I am considering trying my dress with an overskirt at a bridal shop to see if it can be pulled off.

@Reggie - thank you for the encouraging words. I think it will be a fun DIY and something i can be proud afterwards and maybe hand it down to my daughter

@Jorocka - thanks - I didn't think of the hotness of it... although It will be a summer wedding in Miami, it will be held indoors and I think I can manage to have it on just for the ceremony and pictures. The pic of the overskirt is actually over a fit and flare so I am hoping I can pull it off as well.

For some reason in the picture this dress looks more of a mermaid silhouette than a fit and flare... I guess its the netting used underneath the bottom part. Mine doesn't look as fluffy on the bottom. The pictures I find online never does it any justice.
