So, this fun article popped up in my newsfeed and got me thinking the opposite direction. What songs are you sick of hearing at weddings? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/first-dance-songs-that-havent-been-played-to-death_us_570d7ecde4b08a2d32b84b23? One that stands out to me is " A Thousand...

One that stands out to me is " A Thousand Years". It's beautiful, but enough already!

Edit: Spelling is hard..

    I hate all of me.

etd; not all of me personally, but the song. It just sounds like he's being a real freaking prince by loving her "imperfections" and it rubs me the wrong way....

    @FMW(Jessica), John Legend!

Eta: our friends' first dance song was You & I by John Legend.

    Yeah Diana, thats the whatshisname!

@Celia I totally agree. I hate the lyrics. I am not a fan of his voice.

What would I do without your smart mouth?

Drawing me in, and you kicking me out

You're my downfall, you're my muse

My worst distraction, my rhythm and blues

It's not very positive about her

I think all six of my cousins danced to Alison Kraus - When you say nothing at all, at their weddings. That was a long time ago but that song will never not remind me of weddings

I think in general, I am not very fond of songs that are super one-sided about how much the groom loves the bride. "God Gave Me You", "TOL", "All of Me", "The Way You Look Tonight", etc. I dont mind those for a last dance or any other time. But as a first dance, celebrating a newly married couple, they seem awfully centered on the bride

We did "At Last." Totally don't care of people were sick of it. We had dated 9.5 years, at that point, so it was either that or "It's Now or Never." LOL!

I totally don't care what people choose - it's their wedding. I can always have a ladies room break, if absolutely can't stand a song - which would be few.

My sister's first dance was "All of Me." It was the groom's choice; he sang it to her as the bandleader sang. The bridal party was standing next to each other, so we linked arms, swayed side to side, and sang along. We had a fabulous time.

If someone else is sick of hearing it, well, it wasn't their wedding/their choice.

@Dreamer all of us are just expressing what is overplayed. No one is looking down on their choices or saying it is tacky.

I'm glad you and your sister loved the song you chose Smiley smile

"Ho Hey" was one of the most successful dance songs, at a wedding we attended. They had a 12 piece band and over 200 guests. At least 150 of them were on the dance floor. They formed a big oval and had another oval of guests, inside it. Inside of that, couples took turns in a spotlight dance. Everyone was clapping and singing the lyrics, and having a fabulous time. Every crowd is different ...

P.S. Our band refused to do line dances, or songs like "Cupid Shuffle." Didn't miss it.

Beach babe, I'm well aware every crowd is different. Just stating the trend of commonly played first dance songs "overplayed" at weddings, per the title. In my circle, this song is played a lot.

That's nice it was successful. We played a pretty cliche song at our wedding too, and had lots of participants.

We're going to dance to Alison Kraus, but I have been to many weddings and never heard it before. I am considering walking down the aisle to an instrumental of Thousand Years, but that seems like a really hard song to dance to!

OM, yes, Thinking Out Loud. I can't even listen to that on the radio anymore. I really love it when people pick more unique songs that really speak to them as a couple and when it's one of the top songs of the moment and/or one of the most played first dance songs (which that is both) it just feels like you googled a list of first dance songs and picked the first one. Granted maybe that really is the perfect song for certain people, but it still just makes me roll my eyes.

1000 years althought I do think it's a beautiful song and we will probably have the piano guys version at some point during cocktail hour or something. Thinking out loud, all of me, like I'm gonna lose you (I agree this is weird), bless the broken road, then. I could take this list over to a new thread about father daughter dances too. And I love the beat of the Bruno Mars marry you song but the words.... "we're looking for something dumb to do, I think I wanna marry you"....?
