Overreacting?

Dj Tanner, on January 17, 2021 at 11:59 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 16
When I initially signed my contract with my venue, a fully floored light oak floor was included as it is under a tent outside by the water. I’ve seen recent pictures of weddings at my venue for year 2020 and the floor that they are now putting down it’s like a dark/light gray oak. I absolutely hate it! The decor company I have to go through does everything under the sun except for changing the floor for this venue because of how the contract works with my venue and the decor company. I’m locked into a contract with both. In order to get the floor that I want I would have to find another vendor outside of my vendors that I already have just for the floor. I don’t even know where to find a company that just does floors. Do you guys hate the dark oak just as much as I do or do you think the light oak shown in the picture would be better? Overreacting? 1

I don't think this is the thing to get hung up on for your big day. Most people won't be concerned with the floor.

Yeah, I figured they won’t care, but it just sucks when we had such a vision of how we thought it was going to be and more and more it just seems like little things are throwing it off

I agree with Apryl, I don’t think guests are going to even pay attention to the floor. Does a darker color completely clash with your chairs for your color scheme?

I personally would let it go because no one is paying attention to the floor. However, does your contract specifically state the coloring/material of the floor? If yes you could argue it but I would really let it go.

My color scheme is all neutral tones a lot of creams, antique pinks, light peach with greenery and pops of toffee/ cappuccino colored floral etc. So I just really feel like the dark gray oak sort of flattens out the colors that I chose, where as the floor that I was initially shown pictures of gives off a lot more light. I’m sure no one‘s going to know, but it’s just so frustrating

The contract that I initially signed is actually a pretty open ended contract. They showed me pictures and examples of what they provide, but it doesn’t specifically state that on the piece of paper that I signed. So I don’t know how that would hold up

I’d let it go too because it’s one of those things we think might alter our vision but in reality probably won’t

I totally get it. I’ve had the same internal battle with the chairs at my venue. The chairs are fine, but they just aren’t the ideal color for the rest of my vision. People keep telling me no one is going to care or pay attention to the chairs- and the rational part of my brain completely knows that- yet I still can’t help but focus on it 🤦🏼‍♀️ I think us brides put in so much time and effort choosing each color, each flower, each decor item, etc. that it’s near impossible to ignore the one thing throwing it off. I finally just asked myself “is having the right colored chairs important enough to you to spend X amount of dollars to rent different ones for a few hours?” Turns out, they’re not LOL So just ask yourself “is having a different colored floor important enough for you to spend whatever amount of money it will cost you to have it replaced?“ (keeping in mind that it will barely even be seen once people are in the tent)

As long as it is freshly waxed and polished, a taupe or darker color will be a great contrast and shop your dress off better. Often you can see reflections of lights , and bright colored and white gowns, as people dance. You miss that with a lighter floor. If I were you, I would focus on the condition of the floor, waxed and polished, not the color. They can blow you off about a light or dark floor it you did not put one in the contract. But it is hard to argue with you wanting it absolutely clean and polished. Gown trains will drag on the foor, and food will be served in adjacent areas.

Hi!! If you want to explore costs and options tent rentals and event companies offer floor rentals. It can be pricey, but doesn’t hurt to look. I think they charge per square footage. Good luck ❤️

Yeah, I think I might check them out at a curiosity. I wasn’t sure if they would do it because I’m not actually getting a tent from them I’m just getting a floor but I may call around to see. Thanks

I totally get. I hated the chairs my venue had, but it would have cost us about $1,500 to upgrade chairs or have chair covers/sashes because we could only use the vendor our venue had a contract with for those types of things. In the end we decided it wasn't worth the extra money because like others have mentioned it won't matter to the guests. I would recommend not worrying about a floor that literally only you and your fiancé care about.

Many won't pay attention to that unless it's not waxed and is unkempt

Totally agree. Don’t let something that most people won’t even notice upset you on your wedding.

I totally understand how it feels to think of one thing and then find out its something different but i don't think this is something really get hung up on. I highly doubt anyone is going to notice the flooring let alone know it was different before hand but if it is really something you don't like, you can explore other options.
