pa wedding

Hi everyone!
I’m getting married in Pennsylvania in the fall and my fiancé and I are having some trouble figuring out what we can and can’t do for our officiant. I’ve read that it’s not a legal marriage if you are to have someone you know get ordained online and perform the ceremony. Has anyone else had this issue? How have you over come it? My fiancé and I both want Someone close to us to perform the ceremony but don’t know the best way to go about it.

I am from Pennsylvania and it is true that someone can't get ordained online and marry you at least not legally. My brother wanted to for our wedding, but since Pennsylvania doesn't allow this it wasn't possible. There really isn't a way to overcome it as the law is pretty clear that it isn't legal if you get ordained online. Unless you know someone that can legally perform a ceremony then having someone close to you do it won't be an option. The only option I could think of was to get legally married either before or after at the courthouse then have a symbolic ceremony.

This is a really good question because my fiancé and I planned on having his friend marry us after getting ordained online. Ive been reading different things online and it’s so confusing 🤨🤨 some websites say that it depends on the county and some websites say that it’s not legal at all

Right!? There are a lot of different things I’ve been seeing. We have talked about going to the court house a week before and just technically getting married then and there and then having our friend perform the actual ceremony. But it’s slightly a bummer that we just can’t have our friend do it to begin with

Sadly I think we might have to end up doing the same thing 😔I was thinking of calling city hall to get a clear answer but I don’t even think they’re open with everything going on with the virus 😣

I did find that Pennsylvania has a self-uniting marriage license, but not every county offers this and it tends to be more expensive. With this type of license, no officiant is required only witnesses meaning you still can't having your friend or family member marry you as this is literally you and your fiance performing the ceremony yourselves WITHOUT an officiant.

I would look online and see if you can find a legal officiant
