Paging Geeky Brides: Music

Rae, on May 30, 2018 at 10:17 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 14

Hi! This isn't so much a question, but I'm hoping to help some others out! One struggle I've really had is finding music for the ceremony that was geeky but also wedding appropriate. My FH and I are really into video games and anime, so as I'm sure some of you can understand, it's been a little hard...but I've found an answer! If you're also struggling please check out Taylor Davis on YouTube. She does a lot of violin covers of songs, and I especially liked her video game and anime ones. I'm definitely planning on using the Kingdom Hearts "Dearly Beloved" and Yuri!!! on Ice cover. Hope this helps!

I believe most of her music is also available via iTunes

If you are doing an entrance dance the storm troopers theme music would be fun

So, I'm a huge gamer, used to be an audio engineer in Chicago and am also getting married (a day after you actually) my hubby to be are huge WoW and Diablo nuts as well as big anime, science, technology dorks. Bioshocks music (on vinyl or not) is kick-ass but if your looking for something to dance to you should check out 8-bit bands like Anamanaguchi (check out the track Helix nebula to get started) or something like I fight dragons. A river flows within you is gorgeous and basically a ton from the final fantasy sound tracks we listen to those while we work or study. Also you should just pop on YouTube and type in Low Fi anime songs and you'll get this low key hip-hop (with no lyrics) that might be cool to set the mood. Lindsay Stirling is also a bomb violinist who covers zelda and other video game related tracks.

ALSO my friend just got married and as he left they played the starwars theme played by an orchestra, which was a recording so there is plenty of nerdy tracks to be found!

Violin covers make everything classy! It's a nice subtle way to "sneak" in something geeky Smiley smile

FH and I are doing our first dance to "running home to you" from the flash on CW. It's really romantic and no one would know what it's from but we will enjoy the nerdiness of it.

I convinced H to play "Love is in Bloom" from My Little Pony as the first reception song. Smiley laugh

The bridal party walked in to the violin version Jurassic Park theme song. H wanted to use the “Overfly” the closing song for Sword Art Online but a slower song sounded better. So we played it during the reception. I did surprise him with a Pokeball grooms cake! I think adding little geeky touches (or whatever you’re into) makes it seem really special!

My fiancee would love to play some kingdom hearts. That is his absolute favorite game and a lot of the songs, especially Dearly Beloved, are amazing arrangements. Thank you for the insight, I'm going to check this out. Nerdy brides unite 😁🤓

I love this! I'm not as into gaming as my FH but we are both huge movie geeks. Planning on using LOTR and star wars orchestral songs during our ceremony. Im thinking about walking down the aisle to Han and Leia's theme song. Its super pretty!!

My fh and I are also anime and video game lovers. We r having a final fantasy themed wedding. We are using orchestrated music from Distant Worlds tours and some original soundtrack music. We are using some Kingdom Hearts motifs and music as well!

O MY GOODNESS! Thank you for posting this! This is going to be so helpful! Just the other night FH and I were talking about what song to walk into! We have talked about Back to the Future, Marvel, Fifth Element, E.T., Imperial March, White and nerdy and so much more I cannot remember all!

    But we are still undecided!

Don't forget Lindsey Stirling! She does some covers and I love her work.

Another option is to look up instrumental version of songs. Most popular is through a program called Synthensia (I believe, it will show up regardless). It's a program that is meant to teach you how to play piano, but people use it to put out piano versions of songs. Anime, movie, tv shows, anything that has a song, Synthesia has it.

One of my BMs is a professional violinist, and she played during our registry signing--H's request was Han and Leia's Love Theme from Star Wars. it's a super pretty melody regardless, so it sounded amazing, and it was so fun to see the Star Wars fans in the audience tweak to what it was as she was playing it!
