Painting (not dying) sola wood flowers?

Maggie, on October 9, 2019 at 8:20 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 6
I ordered a large beautiful sola wood bouquet from a professional. It’s exactly what I ordered... but now I realize I need to change the colors! I’ve read a lot about dip dying sola wood but mine are stuck pretty well in the bouquet and I don’t want to destroy it! My question is, could I just hand paint the few offending flowers? My plan is to carefully wrap the ones I want to keep in cellophane, use acrylic paint and just paint every petal. I worry it will make the flowers too heavy and brittle. Has anyone tried this before?

It can definitely be done. You may want to water your paint down some and do multiple light coats instead of one thick coat.

Easy. You could also try just doing a watercolor wash. The paint is lighter and more delicate. I would not water acrylic paint down, however you can buy the thinning medium to lighten. If you decide to go the route of water color, they sell it in tubes and I reccomend that over the pans.

Wanted to clarify ***You can add water to acrylic paint, I just think that painting with watery acrylic paint will be a mess. One method of dying sola flowers involves using watery acrylic paint.

Thanks guys! I tried it on some of my extra ones, it looks great! The paint brush is a bit traumatizing for the flowers though lol
