Paper Flower Wall, DIY or hire vendor??

Events By Jenny, on September 14, 2017 at 1:40 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 49

I think this new paper flower wall trend is beautiful! It's unique and elegant at the same time. I didn't realize how expensive it is to rent paper lol. The cheapest I could find was $750 for an 8x6 wall. Being crafty myself I decided to order the basic supplies to create 1 large rose flower to see if I can even do it. I think it came out pretty good. All together it's going to cost me about $175 so why not spend that money somewhere else for the wedding! What do you guys think?

My wall would be 8x8 with champagne, gold, and blush colored flowers for my sweetheart table backdrop. So excited!!

I have never heard of this but the flower looks fantastic! Sounds like it's going to be a great backdrop!

I don't see why not! It's not something that will wither like a real flower so you can definitely get this part out of the way sooner rather than later during your wedding planning. If I was crafty and planning on doing this, I'd absolutely do it myself and spend my money on other parts of the wedding (or save it!)

I did this for a friend's bridal shower once. We made paper flowers out of tissue paper and coffee filters so we had all different sizes. I sued food coloring on the coffee filters to make various shades of pink and it was beautiful! Everyone was commenting on how nice they were and the flower girl and ring bear wanted to take some home with them!

    Your's came out great!

Have your bridesmaids over for some wine one night and you could get it done quick!

@Alecia that's what I was thinking too, I would need about 75 flowers so just a couple a week would get it done in 6 months. Take's about 35 min to make one flower, I could do it while watching The Bachelor Smiley winking

@Thyia my MOH is already on board. I think we can tackle this, just not too much wine before the flowers come out crooked lol

I did this for our DIY photo booth backdrop. It turned out great though I should have made about 8 more medium sized flowers. We had some gaps. We had shimmery white, pale gold, and blush flowers. This is a pic of the first few flowers I made.

There's actually a ton of YouTube tutorials that you can watch and learn and for the templates I just bought them off etsy and cut out stencils! The stenciling is by far the most time consuming, The actual gluing and flower set up takes like 10 minutes.

Definitely giving it a go, I'll post an update when the wall starts coming together Smiley smile

I am doing paper flowers as my main decoration for my wedding! I get married on October 8th of this year so I will add pictures later. I'll have a wall and some on the tables and in other areas, I waited for paper to go on sale and got $250 worth of card stock for about $80!! ive had some paper flower making nights with friends where I have precut all the petals and we hang out putting them together. I got the templates from anyone can craft for free.. and her youtube videos are great!

@Tar they're beautiful! Can you share how you hung the flowers on the wall? Did you use a foam board or a thin table cloth?

If you have the drive and time i say do it. I attempted and made a few flowers but it was just too tedious for me. I instead purchased circle garland for $200 which gives a sort of floral/petal effect. My colors are similar to yours: blush, gold, and ivory. Here is my backdrop i bought. This is only a partial of the strands but it will be 8ft wide.

Forget what the PP said who suggested you have your BMs over one night, serve them wine, and ask them to make paper flowers for a paper flower wall. You have an entire year to make paper flowers.

My mom is a paper flower nut. She loves making them, I have bought her several books with patterns for Christmas. She was making a simple garland that was supposed to go on the bar. She called me in near tears stressed out about it and delegated the craft to my sister. I think time management and a boatload of patience are critical for this craft. I am sure it will look lovely! Eta: I didn't demand that she do this, she wanted to work this into the decor. I don't want to seem like someone that would force their mom to craft and cry.

My bff just made hers! She is amazing and it was gorgeous! I, however, could have never pulled it off myself. Good luck!

I love knowing that other people are attempting and succeeding at this! I really enjoy these kinds of things because it gives me something to focus on. With 60% of my planning already done a year out I want something to put my energy and excitement for the wedding into!

@DAO could you let me know where you purchased that please? If I did get overwhelmed I'm thinking I could do that with the flowers I've already made outline it in an arch shape!

I did not use internet templates because it annoyed me that I had to buy them. I just made my own templates to make the process of creating the flowers go faster than if I made each one by scratch.

I used twelve 20x30in foam boards (to make transportation easier). I laid out the boards in my backyard and laid out the flowers on the boards the way I wanted them. Then I hot glued the flowers to the boards. My mom labeled the boards so we knew what order they went in. Unfortunately, I realized about 3/4 of the way through that she had labeled them wrong, but it was too late to fix it (which is why we ended of with gaps between flowers). We used gaff tape (strong tape photographers use) to tape all the boards together before hanging the whole thing. It was really heavy so our venue let us screw in hooks to their siding (outdoor venue) and we hung it from the hooks with zip ties. A backdrop frame and zip ties would have been a better option for securing the board, but the space we had for the photo booth was too tight. I also know people who have used sheets instead of foam board but the look is different.

Make sure that your flowers have a strong core and are flat on the bottom. Otherwise, they will be harder to glue to the foam boards.

    Final product.

    Good job ladies (and gents)

As much as I'd like to think I'm crafty I could never pull that off and have it be beautiful! I'm jealous!
