paper parasol

heavenlyyoyo, on March 22, 2012 at 6:41 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 9

Has anyone ever painted a paper parasol? I bought 2 for me and my maid of honor to take pics with, but I have no idea how to decorate it. What kind of paint should I use? Can I use stencils? Help I have no idea!!!

I'm doing parasols for the flower girls that read "here comes" and "the bride". I plan to use stick on letters but I'm only about 65% confident that this will be an effective method. It's worth a shot though. Good luck!

I would use paint, I'm not sure what kind, I don't know much about paint lol Stencils might not work because of the bumps and grooves from the folds. Stick on letters sound like the will not work at all unless you are able to crease them somehow to move with the folds of the parasol and not fall off. But then that might ruin them. Let us know how they turn out when you figure out what you're doing Smiley smile

I would try to find a stencil where you could trace it on the parasol and then use craft paint - like the Martha Stewart paint that is good on everything from fabric to wood and glass and paper. So I'm pretty sure that paint would stick to the parasol without any problem. And a decent size stencial or if you know someone that could hand draw an outline on it for you then you could "paint in the lines" so to be speak.

    You’ll Need..

Paper parasol in your choice of size – just make sure that the paper is slightly transparent to allow you to see your pattern through it, most brides go with a simple white parasol (See Paper Lantern Store or Oriental Trading (bulk purchase) to order online)

    Acrylic Paints

    Pencil

    Tape

Fine Paint Brush (Don’t go too cheap here, you’ll want a soft fine brush able to glide along the paper and paint intricate lines…In other words, don’t use the paintbrush from a kids watercolor paint set!)

    Computer/Printer to print pattern

Optional – Embellishments such as swarovski crystals (and glue!)
