Paper Weight?

SummerS, on December 23, 2015 at 10:05 AM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 8

Does anyone know what the minimum weight would be for a good card stock when printing front and back? FH and I printed a test for our programs last night on some shimmer card stock that I had left over from our RD invites and we could see through the paper to the back. The package said the weight was 65lb, which I know is a bit low. We may end up having to order online now so I want to make sure I get the right weight for these so that there is no see-through. Anyone have any idea? I found some online that looks nice that is 95lb...would that be good enough?

I used 80 lb! It was pretty sturdy but still flexible

I am using 110lb cardstock. For the invitations and Guest information sheets I plan to double up (I want it nice and sturdy). Easiest way to do this is to print so you can fold, glue, then cut. Even with a A1 envelope + A7 envelope + 5x7 invite + 4x6 guest card + (A1 size) RSVP size, and some rhinestones, I am under 1oz. I am using Neenah Exact Index 110lb 8.5x11" from Amazon. 250 sheets for $16. Smiley smile I'm finding I'm using it for other things around the house too....

Thanks...have either of you printed anything front and back on those weights, and how was the transparency? That's what I'm mostly concerned with for the programs.

I used it for programs! I used black on white cardstock and it looked fine!

For invites I would go with the 110 lb cardstock though but 80 was nice for programs so it wasn't heavy for people to hold but still sturdy.

    Here is a picture.

The printing on the 110lb card stock did not bleed through.

Ok, thanks...I'm guessing the 95lb that I found on Amazon will work then and I shouldn't be able to see through to the other side.

Thanks @Lmac...I'll be having them printed at Office Max. So, am I safe with the transparency issue I described above if I go with a 95lb paper?

I'm wanting to use a shimmer paper. The one I tested it on at home was only 65lb and didn't so much bleed through, it's just that you could see through it to the other side quite a bit when it was held up to the light....and my ceremony is during the day in a chapel flooded with natural light, so I want to be sure I print on good enough paper to prevent that. Thanks for the tips Smiley smile
