Parent dance help

Trillium, on July 15, 2019 at 1:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
I am really struggling to find a good father daughter song and a mother son song.
We do NOT like anything remotely country or religious. Yet that seems like those are the only songs I am able to find. Can anyone help the wedding is less than 2 weeks away?!

Days Like This by Van Morrison is good for either, but maybe better for Father/Mother?

You Are The Best Thing by Ray LaMontagne is a good one too. (Actually I can't remember the lyrics to this one but it's on my wedding playlist and I know it's not country haha)

Are there any songs that make you think of your father or remind you of him? I personally don't think you have to go with a typical father daughter dance song that mentions the relationship, specifically says "dad", "daughter", or so on.
For instance, my dad has a favorite band that we grew up listening to. There's this one song I'd hear when I'd pass by his office, and now it's his song in my mind.

What type of music do you like?

My dad listens to gothic industrial music. Think rammenstein’s du hast. I listen to more “pop-like” songs. There isn't really a song that makes me think of my dad that would be appropriate. And my fh also wants to dance with our dog so we need something for all of us. (she’s our flower girl and the other love of his life - super adorable)

as for the mother son dance my fh likes classic 80’s & 90’s rock. (Fire woman is a big hit with him). He also doesn’t have a very strong connection with his mother and isn't really into the idea of dancing with her, but if we cut out the m/s dance I know she’d be very upset.

Whew...that's relatable. My FMIL is super religious (like they thought music, drums, and dancing) were evil and my FH doesn't necessarily want to dance/has no clue what to choose, but knows she's be upset if we don't include her.

Is it possible that someone has remade one of the songs in a different way? You know how folks turn rock into acoustic or vice versa.

Into the Mystic is also a good Van Morrison song.

No mother-son dance, but my dad and I are dancing to "La Vie en Rose" by Edith Piaf.

What if you did something else than a dance for the m/s? Something similar to the bride/groom shoe game? That way she’s included and no “evil” for fmil and no dancing or trouble choosing for fh.

Idk about the mother/son dance, but for the father daughter, have you listened to My Girl, by the Temptations?

    It's old, but it's not country. It's a classic!

If you are having problems picking a song have you considered only choosing one and doing a combined dance? I have been at a few weddings where this was done.
