Parents! I need some help, FH's Little sis is worring me :(

?WhitneyNichole?, on April 10, 2012 at 10:41 PM Posted in Married Life 0 20

So FH's little sister is 10 she goes to a public school and her parents are divorced, her dad has like 2 dogs and 3 cats. She got this weird skin rash after hunting/fishing about a week and a half ago, and we cant figure out what it is. First they thought it was poison Ivy/oak/sumac but we have treated for all three, and nothing has gone away. The rash "moves" like one day it will be her arms, and her legs, others it will be her tummy, arms, and legs, and others like today it will just be her legs. There are these tiny little bumps that kinda look like flea bites. We think it may be an allergic reaction but we can't figure out what it it would be from! I am personally wondering if it isn't poor D's nerves because of these darn kids picking on her at school. Can you ladies help? I have never seen this before. (& D's dad has insurance but has yet to take her to the doctor. And her mommy doesn't have the money Smiley sad so we will have to wait for dad to give in to D)

I wonder if it could be bed bugs. Look up what they look like and see if that is what you see

They do kinda look like bed bug bites, like this but smaller and way more spread out their is like 3 or so inches between each tiny bump. It kinda looks like me and sean to red pens and poked D a bunch a times with it :/ the marks are small and randomly placed Smiley sad Aren't bed bugs really contagious too? We no one in the family has it except D.

It could be eczema. I have that and it develops in different places on the body. It can be triggered by something as simple as a new fabric softener, changes in the weather, or even stress.

It is usually not serious, however, and although i have not found anything that gets rid of the rash itself, Aveeno lotions and body wash does wonders for the itch. Also, have her try soaking in an oatmeal bath. That always works for me Smiley smile

It could be an allergy to laundry soap or detergent if they have recently switched, or heat rash depending on how hot it is where you are

Are the bumps raised, inflamed, plaque like? Do they itch and how large is the area of bumps. It "moves" daily?

Julean, that is a good idea! We gave her a oatmeal bath to help her feel better but it seems like the only thing that helps is Hydrocortisone cream Smiley sad She is sooo miserable I wish I knew what was wrong because she was scratching so much tonight I am surprised she didn't tear her skin off Smiley sad

Leslie ~ We asked about the soaps, but nothing has changed. Her school nurse said it could be heat rash but it was only 60 degrees today. She plays soccer and softball during the summer in 90 plus degree weather :/ so I am kinda doubtful that it is a heat rash.

Happily engaged !. ~ the bumps are raised a little and only the bump is red, not around it or any where else. They itch a ton, and they are all over her tummy, her thighs, and her fore arms. The rash "moves" like today its only on her legs, a few days ago it was on her tummy, and her arms, but not her legs. It is really weird to me.

Bed bug bites should go away after a few days if they were those I think and no they aren't contagious but if you don't get rid of the problem (the bugs) you can get bitten each night when they feed. Read up on them and how to tell if she may have them in her mattress etc. I hope you can find out what it is to help her,

Thanks ladies you have been a HUGE help Smiley smile ♥ I will keep looking around on the net to see what I find! I just hope her dad takes her to the doctor soon to make sure it isn't something serious.

Try giving her benadryl, if its an allergic reaction it should help. This is going to sound weird but you can try apple cider vinegar. I had a really weird rash under my arms and that's what I used and it helped the itching and helps make it go away. Try a small spot first because if she has open sores it could burn.

Whitney they look like teh rash my daughter gets from Eczema. She's had environmental alergies since she was a baby and thats the way it shows up. the best treatment to reduce the redness is mostiurizing cream thats as thick at tar. I can't remember the name brand version think its cetaphil but equate from walmart makes a no name one that works as good. What works for my daughter is one taking a warm bath/shower to hydrate the skin then slathering on the cream until no more is able to be absorbed. I think either of teh two links I will put will work they are just guides. If it is Eczema there is a outstanding cause and she needs to see a dr about it.

I'm no parent, but from personal experience, I have gotten little bumps like that myself. Typically mine have a terrible tendency to develop on my face and they itch terribly! For me they typically go away after a day or two, it's never been anything too serious. I'm fairly certain it has to do with stress.

I have severe eczema that pops up wherever it feels like, i started using the new neosporin eczema lotion and it works wonders! There is also an anti itch cream that they make.

It could also be an allergic reaction and benadryl might help either orally or topically. I hope she gets better I can imagine miserable she must be! Try not to let her scratch herself open I do sometimes and it makes it so much worse!

If the bumps look like flea bites, are you sure they aren't actually flea bites? If her dad has like 2 dogs and 3 cats, fleas from the dogs and/or cats will bite humans if they become too numerous to be satisfied with just the dogs or cats. And at that point, treating the dogs and cats won't help; you'll need to treat the carpets, bedding, upholstered furniture, etc.

If she was out in the woods, it could be chiggers (little bugs that get under the skin) They itch and they DO move around in the body. They can be killed by coating the bumps in clear nail polish that deprives them of oxygen and they die. (DH got them a lot when he was in the woods for boyscouts and military training)

Take her to a free clinic or walk in to know for sure if he wont take her to the dr.

If they were fleas, then its more likely that everyone in the house would get the same bites or bumps and the same goes for bed bugs. They will generally occupy all the beds in a household from what I've heard.

If Hyrdocortizone is working then its a very good chance she has excema or psoriasis. Its not serious. She has to use soap that contains either oatmeal or honey in it. (natural the better) use a healing cream such as hydropaletum or also if she has scratched any of them apply some bacitracin to them to aid in quicker healing. My daughter suffers severly. to the point where her whole inner arm was completely raw due to scratching. In a couple of weeks it was gone with daily treatment day and night. Also HEr parents need to increase her water intake and moniter her skin lotioning to ensure she is doing it. also nothing tight(fabric) over the are, becuase the skin needs to breathe

I have no idea what your insurance/financial situation is, but just a heads up: there are a lot of free clinics popping up if you don't have the money to take her to the doctor. They are run by real doctors and nurses who are just providing a service on the side. You could definitely take her there to get checked out.

I hope she feels better soon! That sounds awful!

(btw- I hope I never hear of Chiggers again. That's like my absolute ultimate fear: bugs and needles, so bugs under my skin would freak me out beyond belief)

Maybe caterpillar stings, if she was out in the woods. It leaves an itchy rash and i think it spreads to different areas pretty easily.
