Parents not excited

Mrs. G, on April 13, 2018 at 10:33 PM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 3
I recently just got engaged. And of course I’m super excited about it! I know that no one will be as excited about my wedding as I am, but I’ve felt a huge let down. My mom doesn’t seem excited about it at all. Every time I try to wedding plan with her she wants to make the wedding into something small. It is very frustrating. I feel like she is ruining my joy. I don’t understand how she can’t just be happy for her daughter and the same goes for my dad. On the other hand my FH mom is always trying to help me wedding plan so that makes it a little better. Has anyone else dealt with this before?

I dont know your parents status, but there could be something going on that they haven't spoken with you about. I am only guessing here, so please dont take it to heart or think I'm being hurtful, but sometimes, parents dont let their kids know bad stuff. (Money issues, health, relationship problems) things like that. Not sure how close you are, but try having a chat to see what's going on, if anything. Tell them you love them and that as an adult, youd like to know. Take it from there.

Some people don't show their excitement the same way that others do. Maybe your parents aren't big into the idea of weddings and it serves as a means to an end, ie the wedding serves as a ceremony for getting married. My mom is excited for my wedding, but to others, she definitely doesn't look excited. It is really hard to not have your close family excited for your wedding, but it sounds like your FMIL is showing enough enthusiasm for her and your mom. Enjoy this time with your FMIL and use the time to bond with her.

I would guess that your Mother doesn't agree with your choice. I can relate, and have acted in a similar manner.
